Fuel filter replacement

Does anyone have any experience with the Pure Power Lifetime Fuel Filter? I realized that my 2004 Duramax has one and I am not familiar with this product. Wondering if I should clean and reuse or use Wix filter. How often do you change the filter?

Never heard of that brand, I have a 2003 LB7 and that is one thing on these motors you don't cheese out on is the fuel filters stick with Wix or original AC/Delco from the dealer and if you afford it get an Airdog or FASS pump/filter your Duramax will thank you ,other than the injectors these are great motors

Never heard of a "lifetime fuel filter" of any brand. Many engine manufacturers say to change the fuel filter (s) annually.

I ran a Wix the first time I changed mine and promptly went back to AC Delco. I had trouble with low fuel rail pressure under load. Went back to AC Delco-no problem with low fuel rail pressure. The filters can be purchased in fleet-packs at a lower cost per filter. The same with oil filters.

I was told to have the diesel fuel filter replaced every 10,000 miles.

Diesel is a dirty fuel. On our boat I changed the cannister fuel filters every year. I am not sure what my F350 calls for but I will always stay with recommended fuel filter.

Sorry I mislead you. This filter is a washable, similar you K&N filters. It looks like a great filter and retails for $300.

Use the Wix filter and change every 8000 miles as suggested by my dealership.

Assuming there web site claim is accurate (Testing at SwRI showed a 90% Improvement in Particle Removal over paper "throw away" filters) it looks like a good product. Since you didn't put in on I'm curious if you know how long it might have been installed and in service before you bought the truck? Has the truck had any injector problems which by the way were notorious with duramax engines with OEM filters?

Unless I can see the actual testing set up and results, I would pass. Two phrases: "up to 90% better" and "down to 1 or 2 microns" are very misleading. All filters work better the dirtier they get. Unless they can prove to me that they tested one of their brand new units against a brand new quality disposable filter and achieved those results, I'd take those claims with the same BS thoughts I reserve for K&N's claims.

Replacing injectors (the parts that wear out from poor quality fuel filtration) is too expensive to take chances.

Amen and Amen, change those baby's out, I have mine done every 10k miles whether they need it or not, dealer charges around $135 bucks for both filters and labor, money well spent. Since we are now retired and will be pulling the trailer a lot more, may have to reduce that interval even more.

I bought my 2004 Duramax recently with only 25,000 miles on it. It is a Duramax second generation LLY as opposed to the first generation LB7. They fixed the injector problems. When I cleaned it the other day, found lots of particles. I am still waiting to hear from someone who has first hand info on this product. If anyone has info on this filter please let me know.

I just replaced the fuel filter on my 2008 Duramax/Allison 2500 with a Delco purchased from Amazon. I have always followed the readout on the "computer" as to life of the filter, and have never had a problem. This is the second filter I have replaced myself--prior ones were at the shop. It's not the easiest thing in the world to get to, but I followed an excellent U-tube video and also bought a kit for better access through the fender well.

When it comes to filters for my Ford I will NOT use anything but Ford (Motocraft) filters. I personally recommend using your manufacturers filters. After market may be a bit cheaper.....at first. But the end result can cost you big $$$$! I don't care which brand vehicle you own you should probably stick with that brand's filters.

And I agree with the Amazon advice. Just replaced my air filter with a Motocraft filter and saved $27 on Amazon, plus free shipping.

I had an '04 LLY and changed it probably way too often, 5000 miles, but that's me. I change my 07 LMM filter every 5000 too. I stick with the OEM filter and get it from Merchant Automtive. About $35. Never heard of a lifetime fuel filter. Especially in a diesel.

You are right Russ the LLY did not have the injector issue that the LB7 did 2004 was the transition year for Duramax they still made the LB7 till 20041/2 also it is ALOT easier to change injectors in a LLY than a LB7 but I do not think you have to worry about it for a long time ,but one thing about the LB7 is NO EGR and Great MPG
