AC PROBLEMS

Our ac recently started trying to come and making a clicking sound and finally threw the breaker. Service man came out and installed a new thermostat: $163. Worked fine for a couple of days then started the same thing. Same service man came out and said it was the control box and would cost another $285. We bought a new control box for $100 and had a handyman install it for $20. It's doing the same thing; we have to turn it off and on manually or it runs all the time. WHAT THE H--- ELSE COULD IT BE? Sounds like a tight compressor, trying to start, then blowing the breaker. I would replace the hard-start capacitor, if that doesn't do it, it is a bad compressor. I would replace the entire unit in that case, unless it is under warr.
By control box, do you mean the starting kit, or capacitor?
