Removing Dining Table

We are full-timers with a 2010 3585SA and the single-pedestal swivel dining table. There is no desk in this model. I may be needing an ergonomic workstation and the only option for us may be to remove the dining table and put something in its place, i.e. computer station.

Has anyone removed their dining table? It's lovely but looking like it just is not going to be a practical fixture in our rig for the direction our life is going.

I'm wondering if there is any impact on weight distribution? This thing's heavy! We replaced the heavy (useless and uncomfortable) sleeper sofa on the same side with a lighter-weight daybed arrangement a couple of years ago.

Cheers,
Betty

Do you plan to give up the eating habit?

Ours isn't fastened down at all. Only thing holding it in place is it's weight and (when the slide is in) the galley sink cabinet. Matter of fact, the couch wasn't fastened down either. Nothing on that slide was.

Comes out very easy. Ours is held by four screws thru the pedestal to the floor.

We would probably never take ours out due to resale. However I can never recall sitting at it to eat or do anything else. We eat while sitting in our recliners. It is a nice place to set stuff on for us.

I suspect it would not have any negative effect by reducing the weight on that that side.

We kept our table and since we seldom have folks sleep over dumped our sofa and put a desk in there. When we do have kids come to visit we use a blow up queen bed from Cabela's that we put in the middle of the livingroom floor. They get a good nights sleep and we have a livingroom with everything we need.

Wife needed a craft/work desk so we turned ours around 45 degrees. Much longer and more usable in that config for a desk.

Just took ours out. I wrote about it here.

Gone is the Table.

Nope, not concerned about resale value. OEM couch long gone, OEM recliner ditto. Dining chairs, two left 12 years ago, we were down to one and it is now gone too. I am not saving OEM stuff for someone who might be interested in buying Tana when ever we give her up. Selfish me, it's all about my comfort these days.

This is end result, if you want to see the process, click through to the web page.

I actually like and use our dinette. Call me "old fashioned" but I still believe in sitting at a table for meals. We seldom eat in front a TV. We snack there, but we don't eat a meal there. Nor do I sleep there in my recliner. That's what my bed is for! But, heck that's just me.
I can see getting rid of a dinette if you don't use one. It's weight and space used for nothing.

Betty, We have the 3585sa. Removed the table and chairs five years ago.
We never used it. Just collected junk. Put a cabinet in its place for
more storage.

We eat at the table also. It's more conductive (maybe wrong word?) to talking to DW. You know how was your day? What did I do to piss you off and how much will it cost me to make it right.

We eat at our table also and would not remove it. Also play games there. To each his own. Just do whatever works for you.

Haven't eaten at the table yet. Either outside or on the recliners. Table has become a collection point for all sorts of stuff, not sure where we would put if table wasn't there. replacing it with a cabinet of some sort would probably be a good idea. Only take 2 chairs with us and keep dog kennel under one side of the table.

Thanks for all the responses! I have scored a couple of pieces of furniture and an ergonomic chair which should fit nicely into the space where the dining table currently sits.

The table is lovely, but I'm really more in need of a workstation area at this point, so it will be heading out the door in the near future.

Life changes, and we adapt.
