Railing

How does one find a frame stud in the stairway outside wall for a handrail mount,that Iwould make to length. Would it be safe to stay next to the door frame and window frame 1" in. We have a 3100rl Thanks John R.

The use of a stud finder should tell you exactly where they are. Stud finder only sense wall density changes, so what's inside(wood vs alum) doesn't matter. John

Some stud finders actually have a select switch for wood or metal.

Also check to see if there is something electrical that they might have run a wire down the frame. If there is, then you have to be even more careful.
