5th wheel winter cover

Hello all! Need some advice for the best cover for our 5th wheel. Looking at reviews and they are not very good. We will need the 40' plus cover for our 3701LK.

I will recommend storing in a covered location vice using a cover. The covers don't always hold in the weather and are a PIA to put on and remove.

Unfortunately that's not an option. We store it at home and don't trust storage places. I feel better that it's right next to my house. We don't want to spend 400 bucks on a cover that won't last a season and that's all I'm finding.

Unfortunately we all do not have the luxury of storing our rigs indoors. I just sat down at the computer to order a new cover for our new Montana fifth wheel and saw the Montana Newsletter and this subject. How timely.

Where we store our trailer, there can be some pretty strong winds. That's what seems to do ours in. Last winter it tore along the seam along the entire length on one side. If you do decide to buy one, I suggest tennis balls to cover all the drain scuppers. At least that will prevent a failure from those sharp edges. The Camco cover comes with sleeves to install over the HD antenna protecting those sharp edges. We also take a medium Dominos pizza box and duct tape that over the antenna. Good luck

Thank you. Have used the heavy CAMCO gutter sleeves in the past. Will use a lighter weight Classic cover on our new Montana this winter. We are located in NC, so hope the winds are not too bad. Like the idea of the tennis balls and the pizza box. Didn't think very much of the CANCO sleeves, but did use them. Going to try a new product this year. It's called the 'RV Gutter Spout Cover System' by RUDD. I ordered a set that is supposed to be delivered tomorrow.

Considered building a cover if that is an option at your home. Otherwise, recommend leaving it uncovered.

We tried to get a metal cover approved through our home owner's association but that got turned down real quick.

There is your first mistake. Living somewhere that has a homeowners association. That's one of my first ? when looking for a house/property. If there is one, I will not even consider it.

You are lucky they let you store the trailer at home. I think most HOA,s don't allow that.

Guess it is good we are not all alike. We have lived in an HOA neighborhood for the last 33 years I appreciate what the covenants have done in keeping the neighborhood nice and the property values up.

Have yet to see a cover deliver desired results. They either get torn up by the wind or do more damage rubbing against the 5'er. Mine has sat outside for 5 of the 13 years we have owned it. No worse for the wear. If I had to choose I'd leave it uncovered.

I'm thinking that we're just going to leave it uncovered. Give it a nice cleaning when we have a good day in the winter. Thank you all for the advice.

I'm probably one of those bad reviews on the Camco cover that I purchased from CW. The good news is that I spent a little over $500. I had it replaced under the CW extended warranty after first season's failure and then under the Camco warranty on the second season's failure. I have the new and improved Camco one that's going on next week. So $170.00 a season. I fully expect this to be trashed in the spring and won't buy another.

My HOA won't let us build a metal building and the cost of a garage big enough to house my 3829 FK is like a new house, and none of the covered storage places near us can take a 40' 5'er. My best advice is to save the headache of putting the cover on, and just wash and wax the 5'er once a year.

Don't count out a building to house your unit. As long as you have enough ground a very nice-looking pole building can be built for 25k or less

If you are looking for an alternative opinion, keep it uncovered. waste of time and money to get a cover.

Before we went full time we also never covered ours. Pretty rough weather and a good deal of snow and still no reason for a cover.

I'd try to find covered storage. There are lots of places not normally used for RV storage, but have space and will accommodate you. I've stored mine in a truck terminal and currently in a boat storage yard....20' x 50' covered with power.

We covered ours last winter, and this winter sold the cover, only covering the AC units. This is our 3rd RV and never covered the first two and never had issues. We're located in New England.

We started using a Calmark cover while living in AK. 6 years later and still in great shape along with the Monty. It's my personal choice to cover ours.

4 years and 2 campers on the Elements band we bought from CW. A bit of a pain at 40 ` but with the driving rains during late fall and the snow slowly melting on the top I would worry the whole time about a leak that developed that I didn`t see at year end inspection. Here in the North East I have never had the problems with them that others have. YMMV
