Hitch receiver
We just purchased a new Montana 3402 5th-wheel. It came equipped with a rear hitch receiver for a bike rack. However, when I tried to put my bike rack in, I noticed there was no hole drilled through the receiver to be able to put a pin through to hold the bike rack in. Is this just a fluke? Do I need to drill it myself? Am I missing something? Confused!

I think their QA was sleeping at the factory that produces the hitches. My 2011 3580's hitch only had a partial hole. Only drilled out on one side. Had to finish it myself.

Yup, that's today's quality for you. Guess you'll have to drill a hole for youself. It'll probably be a better hole anyway.

That's one of the dumbest things I've ever heard. A receiver without the holes makes no sense. Is there another way to fasten a rack? I don't think so. Sounds like it's time to get back to the dealer for some attention (like a new receiver). I'm jealous of some of you guys that have the power tools strong enough to punch holes in that metal.
I would never have thought to put "check for holes in the receiver" on a PDI list, but I guess now it's warranted.

Ours came with the hole, but we never got the build sheet so I don't know if it was an option or standard. Sounds like it must have been an option.

I would plead my case to the dealership, make them drill it...and deburr it...and paint it...

Ours is correct. Guess some were and some were not. Assume keystone installed as provided by supplier, without any check of supplier quality control. Useless without the pin holes.

Just one of many ways the quality of these RV's are going downhill. I feel sorry for those of you are buying new rigs and looking forward to all the problems you are going to have. Quality really sucks.

The QA dept probably did a test and found out if they remove any more metal from the hitch it wouldn't hold anything. So no hole, and if you put one in it will void the warranty. LOL

Ours came with only one hole because you are suppoed to use a bolt to hold it in place. Our Tule rack came with the bolt.

Oh, good point! I too have a Thule bike rack with the bolt retainer. Tightening the bolt holds the rack much stiffer than a pin. I'm thinking I'll just drill one hole.
