2009 3665re new brakes
Hi all,
So I have an 09 f'er and I'm taking it on a long haul through the west coast canada. Long story short. Pulled wheels to repack bearings and found brakes to be wore out. So ordered new brakes assemblies and drums.once installed had no brakes on one side. And only 5volts going to them. Cut connections off, and rewired connections. Now getting 11 volts but I'm not completely satisfied with braking. Seem a bit wek to me. Is there something I'm missing. The old brakes worked 100x better.

It takes a few miles and brake applications to wear new brakes in.

Thanks for reply. I was wondering about that. Just worries me going through mountain ranges. Some long grades going up and down. I'm not used to having to wear brakes in. Have done lots of brake jobs on big rigs but dealing with air and way more brake pressure.

It doesn't take much to wear them in. If it doesn't improved fairly quick I would keep looking for issues.

I pulled my drums to repack my bearings a couple of weeks ago. Brakes were fine. After cleaning everything up with brake kleen, I reinstalled the drums and went for a ride. Very weak brakes for about a mile, then they started settling in. We went on a 300 mile round trip outing last week and the brakes were better than ever. Actually had to back off the breaking effort setting on the truck. Maybe you just need to go on an easy does it ride and see if they come around.

These ones are not self adjusting. I set brakes up manually before I took off jack stands after repacking bearings. Thank you for your response

I have an 02 FW and I just replaced all 4 of mine earlier this month with Dexter never adjust. The paperwork (yes I’m anal and not a mechanic that has done it a lot so I read them.lol) says to burnish them in you need to apply brakes 20-30 times from a speed of 40mph slowing to 20mph each time letting them cool adequately during the process. While I got them on due to diesel prices, I didn’t go for a joy ride to burnish them in yet, plan to do it next month on our next getaway.
