Adding 2 Cycle Oil??
I filled up with diesel today. On the next pump a Ram owner was doing the same thing except he added 3 containers of 2 cycle engine oil to his diesel tank. The 2 cycle oil was in premeasured containers for 1 gallon of gas. Is there a secret that the RAM owners have that we Ford Diesel owners don't. I did not ask what he was doing. Any comments.

Alot of us have done it Cummins,Duramax and Powerstroke owners as 2 cycle Synthetic NO ASH oil helps lube and quiet the injectors,I do it every once in a while instead of Diesel Kleen etc..My Duramax likes it

I just read an article (Trailer Life on Bio-Diesel) that suggested using the 2 cycle oil in the newer trucks might not be such a good idea.

Dodge ram diesel with VP44 injection pump 98.5 2002 I use it as additive. the dist of diesel to pumps is suppose to add it. during pipeline shipping it's left out due to different batch's of products being in the pipe line. When I use it I use Caster bean base racing oil from a motorcycle ship. Helps keep the injection pump slick.

I used to use a 50/50 mix of Diesel Kleen and synthetic 2-stroke oil until I read the article linked by Sapest (above) a few months ago. To improve lubricity, the absolute best is Opti-Lube summer blend, If you can find it.

Yeah like mhs4771 said maybe not for the newer diesels but my 2004 and 2007 Duramax sure likes the stuff with no Ill effects over the years of real life testing of Many Diesel owners out there

For the old piston pumps found on the older Dodges and pre Dmax Chevys and my John Deere tractor and the Cat designed Ford pump injectors you could put about anything through then. With the new 25,000 to 35,000 PSI systems found on all new Diesel engines it's best not to use any thing in then not designed to be used and recommend by the manufacturer. These systems are far too fragile to take chances with. What was fine with the old systems are not with the high pressure common rail systems of today.

The only thing I put in my fuel is Stanadyne (recommended by GM) or Power Service Diesel Clean. Two cycle oil is NOT recommended.

My next door neighbor is the service manage of a large GM dealership. He says do not use 2 cycle oil in diesel fuel...

Cummins Does not recommend any additives to any of there engines up to and including using synthetic oil unless you are in extreme cold conditions.

Ford recommends Using Motor-craft Cetane Booster and performance improver to ensure the diesel you are buying meets the minimum cetane required for the pump/injector system. Here is a chart of cetane ratings frequently posted on diesel forums. Don't know how accurate it is. But if true, some brands would be better served by additives than others.
I think fauch meant the MINIMUM cetane requirement is 40.

These engines are designed to run on 45 cetane. Most diesel is about 40 and if tested isn't even 40 and to add to that most, nearly all has biodiesel in it, 3 to about 7%.
