RV HEIGHT IN TRUCK BED
When hooked up to my Monty, the truck & trailer are level. However, the front feet of the Monty are rather low & I've experienced dragging of the feet on the ground or driveways.
I was told not to bring the jacks up too high because they may get stuck in the up position. What is the proper/safe height to raise the jacks so they won't get stuck.
Also, I see there are additional holes in the mounting bracket to lower the hitch on the Monty thus raising the height if the Monty in the truck bed. This would only lower the hitch 1" to 1 2/2" Would this be the proper way to raise the Monty in the truck bed.
Can the hitch within the truck bed be some how raised with spacers to accomplish the same thing or would that be risky business.
Because of the lowness of the Monty in the truck bed I have also damaged the rails for my tonadu cover on a number of occasions when making tight turns when at a slight angle.

My reese elite hitch has a range of holes that are used to lower or raise the overall hitch height. If you have the normal six inches of clearance between truck bed rails and the bottom of monty when hooked up, I would think the landing gear is down to far. Just my opinion as I have level up on my monty. John

You are pulling the pins out of the landing gear and sliding them all the way up, in addition to raising them electrically, right? If you're level with about 6-7" between 5er and bedrails, your hitch should be ok.

What Dave says is correct and you should retract your landing gear all the way except for about a 1/2". You don't want the gear teeth grinding. Use paint or a marker to put a line on the landing gear telling you when to stop and then you won't ever go too far. On the bed height you can move the hitch in the holes provided, but your king pin also has holes to adjust it. Using both those adjustments you should be able to get the clearance you need and still have your rig level.

On my truck I have about the width of a hand clearance between my truck bed and the monty. how much space should there be and if I do need more is it better to move the king pin down or the hitch up. I would really like more info on this one.
Thank you in advance.

That's what I do, mark it with a permanent marker.

Eagleback ... shoot for 6" clearance between truck bed rails and bottom of fiver. I wouldn't go less than 5" in a pinch. It doesn't matter which you move (pinbox or hitch frame) to get that clearance. Most times it is easier to move your hitch frame. Be sure and torque up the bolts after moving things. As for the fiver being level ... measure the frame to ground front and rear as sometimes while just eyeballing it, the skirting plays tricks on your eyes. It by no means has to be exact, but as close as possible.

Six inches between the bottom of the trailer and the top of the bed rails is a safe measurement. Run the landing gear up as high as possible without grinding the gears and be sure to retract the extensions all the way up. If the trailer is a couple inches higher in the front that the rear that's OK. Just don't let the rear get too low or it might start dragging when you enter parking lots, driveways, etc.

I have 6" clearance with my Curt. FYI I get well meaning RVers tell me they thought my landing gear was not up. Never dragged them but I have noticed the 6 point system hangs low! Overall my real issue is seeing unlevel towing. Mostly "lifted" trucks towing "Toyhaulers"! Yes I have issues.... Lol

I have a Trailer Saver air hitch on my tow vehicle. I also have a fold up bed cover. It folds to the front of the bed when the hitch is used. When I make a sharp turn the front of the trailer comes close to the cover. As a result I added an extension to the hitch. It raises the hitch two inches which was perfect. The down side is that it raised the total height of the trailer. With a front A/C unit I was approaching 13' 8", to high for comfort so I took the extension off and am just careful on turns. Just remember the more bed clearance you have the less overhead clearance you have.
