Replacing Thermostat in 2005 2955
My 2955 has the wireless thermostat with the Phone (RJ-45) connector in the receiver on the wall. Has anybody been successful in replacing this unreliable and inaccurate piece of junk with a real thermostat? Ours is off by no fewer that 12 degrees. We woke up Sunday and found the inside temp to be 38F. It was set at 78F (ie 66 + 12), not off, in the correct mode for heating, and it was in the holder inches from the receiver. Near as I can tell it just failed.
We don't need anything fancy. Just reliable and accurate.
I have installed a wireless dual zone system in my house and IT works flawlessly. It was a couple of hundred bucks though.
Thanks,
Muddypaws

Check the "remote thermostat" thread under "Montana Problems & Technical Help" You will find a very long thread discussing your problem in detail.

Read the thread as suggested by Gonfishn. It is very long, so the short version is that it can be replaced by a very effective system called a "Comfort Control Center". It is also sold by Dometic and uses the same wiring. You have to replace the thermostat on the wall and the circuit board in the AC. Dometic have changed lots of them under warranty. They may try to give you a run around, but if you work with your dealer, you should be able to get that "piece of junk" replaced by a something that really works well. I know, because we did!

Please check my post under the long thread of remote thermostat. Call Dometic and make your problem know, and be firm with them, they know they blew it. Hope this helps.

A phone number that you might be interested in: 888-867-4188. The person I talked to was John Sherburne at Dometic. He told me to contact my dealer and then have the dealer call him. My CCC is in Houston at the dealer. It was supposed to have been changed today, but was rescheduled for Thursday.

Our 2005 2955RL is about to go out of warranty. We too have been suffering with the "unique" behavior of the remote thermostat. We had started an e-mail exchange with Dometic back in December, but had not had much success in getting them to replace the unit. However, two weeks in Quartzite rekindled our desire to swap the remote thermostat for the CCC unit.
We left the trailer with the dealer along with a long description of the "unique" behavior (much of which has been echoed in various postings on this forum). The dealer said they hadn't heard of any problems, but they would take a look at it. Needless to say, we expected a long drawn out discourse between the dealer, Dometic, and us (caught in the middle). Imagine our surprise when the dealer called four days later to say everything on our list (there was eight items in all) was complete. This includes changing out the wireless remote for the CCC unit.
Apparently, something has changed (for the positive) between Dometic and Montana. I don't know what it is, but we really appreciate it. Stepping up, and correcting what is a well known problem, has impressed us.
So give the problem to your dealer and let them deal with the appropriate supplier.
P.S. you set the CCC to the desired temp, it shuts the furnace off when the temp is reached, and when the temp drops 2 degrees, it turns the furnace on until the desired temp is reached. Just like the thermostat in our house. Amazing!

Carl,
It's great to see that Dometic, Keystone and your dealer came through for you.

Does anyone know what the conversion parts for this CCC would cost?

Quite a bit, I would suspect. It involves changing not just the wall unit, but the entire control circuit board for the air conditioner. I would guess it would be in the low $ hundreds.

I could be wrong, but I have an uncomfortable feeling that the $90 just gets you a replacement wall unit, you still need the control circuit board for the A/C itself.
