what brand ice makers do you have? - Montana Owners Club

I noticed, at the recent rally, that some of you ladies have a portable ice maker.

What brand do you have? I read some great and some horrible reviews on one that Target carries and so am not sure what kind to get.

Also, when did you buy it and approx. how much did you pay for it?
The economy being as bad as it is, I might be able to get a deal... but I want a good, reliable machine.

I miss a whole bunch of you! We are down here in Florida... waiting to get called back to Disney. Rich may have to wait a while since there is allegedly a hiring freeze on... but once the rest of the snowbirds return and the kids start showing up for the holidays... things should pick up (I hope... it IS awfully quiet in this general vicinity). We went to Downtown Disney (free to walk around) and while the parking lots were full, the walkways were very thinly populated. Took a run past Magic Kingdom and their parking lot was not even half full (NOT a good sign).

I still have a couple "free to get in" passes if any of you will be down this way before the first of the year. Drop me a line!

I have a U-LINE. I've had it probably 8 years.It was somewhere between 7-8 hundred, but has been well worth it. Makes more ice than I can use in a day. I don't have a washer/dryer, so I set it in the closet and use the cold water connection. One camper I had, I set it between the two recliners and taped into the kitchen cold water line. Wouldn't do without it. Kerry

how bit IS it? We do have a washer/dryer and the bird cage sits next to the one recliner, along with a 3 cubic foot freezer. It would have to go in the underbelly, maybe?

I have the Magic Chef portable ice maker. It makes enough ice to keep our ice chest full and our drink glasses full all day. I buy one bag of ice on the way to the lake and use the ice maker the rest of the trip. I got it at home depot on the clearance rack for $129 but they usually have them for $179 online.

We have a Magic Chef. We got ours at Home Depot too and I think we paid somewhere around $150. That's a guess. I agree with Okie Guy, it makes more than enough ice to keep us happy and our drinks cold!

U-LINE makes 2 ice makers. 1st one - Makes 23lbs of ice a day, 24 1/2"H x 13 13/16"W x 16 3/8"D. 2nd one - Slimline makes 20lbs of ice a day, 18 1/2"H x 13 13/16"W x 24 3/4"D. Kerry

We also have the Magic Chef. We have had it for 2 years now and it works great. Makes 3 sizes of ice cubes and keeps us well supplied. Like the others we got it at Home Depot for just under $150.

My wife found the Emerson IM90 for my in-laws on clearance at Target. Originally 139.95 then 50% off. Went back a week later to pick it up and they were marked down 75%. Ended up paying 34.98 each and picked up three of them. It is about the size of a small bread maker. They are clearing the Emerson's out and most of the stores here in the Phoenix area still have them. Plugged it in and in about 8 minutes the ice started dropping. Works great and makes 22 lbs in 24 hours. Looking forward to using it this next week at the Nascar race in Phoenix.

Eureka... that's exactly the info I was looking for. We currently buy ice but it takes up so much space that I thought a counter top model might be worth the investment (but not 7 or 800). Rich uses ice a WHOLE lot more than I do. I thought it might make a nice b'day present (Rich..get off this thread or you'll ruin your b'day surprise!!) I'll have to watch for sales.. which, with the economy is such distress... shouldn't be all THAT hard to find. Thanks all... I appreciate the input!

I bought a emerson today at target for 34.98 the target i went to didn't have any so i asked if he would look where and it found 1 3 miles up the rd ,, i took the last they had but , they also will ship it to you if needed ,, sailer

We have a Wind Chaser Ice Man which we paid about $140 about 3 years ago at Costco. It works great, uses a small amount of energy, 3 sizes of cubes. Makes 10 cubes in ~10 minutes.

Wouldn't leave home without it!

Hey Helen-I know you got your questions answered, but I thought I would throw my two cents in. We bought ours three years ago at Campers World. It was around $160.00 but I also wouldn't leave home without it. It fits perfectly in the underbelly. It's a Boston Innovative Products and also makes three different sizes of ice cubes in about 10 minutes. Dave drinks lots of iced tea and uses lots of ice cubes. So, it is so worth it. Especially where we are now. We are almost 12 miles from the nearest town. So, running for ice is out of the question.
I also miss you and everyone. I wish we could come down that way but it depends on what is going on here and money is an issue. It is one thing to go down there but to actually pay to get into the park is too much right now as you have seen in the lack of attendance. We were down there two years ago. We had Dave's daughter with us and he told me after he had paid for two days for the three of us that he had never seen his wallet hemmorage so much before. It was a blast though and I wouldn't trade the memories or experiences for anything. I had never been there before so it was a blast for me and I know that we missed so much. We also didn't get to Sea World so I want to get back someday.
Anyway, I'm sorry that I got off the subject. Good luck finding an ice maker and THEY are the worth the MONEY!!!!
