Need Help - Messed Up My Slideout a Bit

Hi all, I made a dumb mistake and left out a very hard plastic garbage can against my Montana as I was putting in the slides for winter. The fiberglass is bent, but the slide seems to be working fine. My gut instinct is to just spray it all with insulating foam until I can get it to a bodyshop. Any advice though woudld be greatly appreciated!

I think if you removed some of those white screws and were able to push the wall back in, and then installed the screws in new holes, maybe need to add several more, you might be good. It doesn't look like the fiberglass is broken. You're really lucky that the fender isn't broken. You might need some help, so one is pushing on the wall as the other is putting in the screws. Oh, and welcome to the forum.

Thanks! Yeah, we bought a small property in WV in the spring and the RV was already here so the owner gave me a deal...my first time ever with an RV so this was definitely one of those lessons learned (always do a walk around before putting the slides in/out!)

Welcome aboard! I agree that you might be able to push that back into place. You might need to drill new holes to get a good purchase into the framing.

As Bob stated, by removing a few more screws both the side and the bottom of the slide and having some help on pushing the bottom of the slide back in, you should be able to fix it yourself if you a handy at all. As said, replace the screws in a different place along the edge and bottom and it should be OK. When you do put it back together you might want to use some liquid nail on it also to hold it better. If you are not handy, you can take it or have it taken to a dealer and I'm sure they will be more than happy to replace it but it will be for a price. You don't say what year or model the Monte is and that would help us also in being able to give you better suggestions on fixing it. I am surprised you did not hear this when closing the side up. That had to have made quite a bit of noise when it started to crunch the wastebasket. Let us know what you came up with and maybe we can help more in your repair.

I agree with the others. That appears to be something you could repair and possibly save hundreds of dollars. Also, a walk around outside is a good thing to do before closing a slide, but, do the same inside....don't ask me how I know.

I would not fill the void with expanding foam. it will jack up the price of repair since it will have to be removed.

The repair idea already mentioned sound good. make sure you seal it up so it is waterproof, or your post in a few months will be how to replace the rotting floor.

I’d take the old screws out shove the side back in put some new screws in. I’d put more screws in than original and be done with it. This isn’t rocket science you can fix it probably in less time than it would take to take the camper to get it fixed.

Would not leave it like that for long would more than likely crack when you try to push it back..

I recently did a similar, but not quite as bad when we blew the spur gear in the gear pack on the rear of the slide, causing the slide to come in crooked. I used a ratchet strap and was able to pull it back in position, no way could I push it back. Drilled new holes added new screws and more than original. Then reseal.

I agree with above. You can fix this yourself. Add more screws than original, and re seal. Don't forget to fill the old screw holes. Ratchet straps is a good idea, but you will want a second or even three people to make sure you have pressure in the key spots. Free beer always works good for me. Lol.
