Propane ?????

2014 3150RL, it currently has 2- 7 gallon or 30# tanks, has anybody changed those out for 10 gallon or 40#??? Looks like they would fit. Our rig has a genset, and the propane doesn't last long.

I put the bigger tanks in our 2955RL, I just moved the band that holds them in place so it closer to centered on the larger tanks. Depending on your propane pig tails, you might need to replace with slightly longer ones.

30 and 40# propane tanks are the same diameter. The 40# tank is taller but should fit. You may have to raise your regulator but it is connected with self tapping bolts that you can reuse. Pig tails will probably fit but as said may have to get longer ones. With about 2.5 more gallons of propane in each 40# bottle it is well worth it if dry camping and camping a lot in cold weather.

My understanding if you ended up with the genset option you got the 40LB tanks. Is that correct? or at least it was on my model and year.

Thanx all, our new to us 2014 3150RL has a brand new onan 5.5 propane in it, and according to our first trip and reading the usage isn't good. so an extra #20 propane would be huge. I'll probably add solar too. Most of the genset running our first trip was simply TV, etc and battery charging. When they're empty, they'll get replaced.

A 30# tank will last about 7-8 hours with the 5500W Onan.
I'm looking at getting 40# tanks. The dealer wouldn't upgrade the before I took delivery.

That's about right. Our first trip, we ran the genset for about 6 hours, refrigerator 3 days, furnace 1 nite, HW 1 time. And we used about 6.5 gallons!!.At this point, just trying to get an accurate idea of HOW long we could last boon docking!!

Last month, we went out for 9 days in the beast and only added water and still had most of a 30# propane tank remaining. Solar, batteries and an inverter stretches the propane. The heater ran two nights a few times, we probably put 3-4 hours on the generator and the rest of gas usage was cooking, water heater and the refer.
