Front Tire Wear on F350 Dually FX4
Need advice...
Anyone out there having terrible wear on the outside shoulder of the front tires on their 2017 F350 FX4 DRW 6.7 Powerstroke? I only have about 5200 total miles (with about 1000 miles towing) on the truck and the tires look terrible. Uneven wear on the outside shoulder of both front tires but the drivers side tire is the worst.

Even though your truck is new, I'd get it into a front end shop to check the alignment. It sounds like it is way out of specs. Unless something is broken, it's probably not a warranty issue.

I agree with Bob. I bought a new at the time 2014 F350. Had the same thing happen and took it in to have the front end checked. Turns out they said I had a bad ball joint. They replaced it under warranty

Dropped my truck off this morning to be checked out for problem with front end tire wear. I'll post what the problem is/was when I get the truck back. Thank you to all that replied.

Had that on our 08 F 350 took it to a good year shop were we winter in Haines city Florida. They instantly knew what the problem was as they said they see this all the time in Florida that has many tow vehicles. The pinweight on our 13 3402 was enough to cause take some weight off the front end of the truck affecting the alignment. We are high end users so the 3402 is on the truck most of the time when on the road.
They suggested air shocks or air bags. I did get air bags but not at that shop. The air bags did solve the problem by stabilizing the weight on the truck axles. Just our experience.

richfaa is right, but I've run into a balance issue on ours. The truck is 11 years old and I wasn't stupid enough to keep running on old tires - replaced them three years ago (even though they only had 40k miles on them). This spring I started having strong front end shimmy, that turned out to be a tire/wheel balance issue as I must have lost a weight or two somewhere.

Warranty: Front End Alignment Performed
Toe In was incorrect. Factory Alignment wasn't set up correctly. Auto Nation Ford Burleson, TX (where I bought the truck) performed a front end alignment today and set the toe in to correct specks. This should fix the wear problem. Time will tell?

Ok enlighten me. These Ford SD trucks have a live axle how can reduced front weight cause uneven front tire wear? Something I've never heard of.

Agreed. Don't wait too long as the tire wear will likely only continue.

Both of my Ford duallies wore out the the outside of the front tires. I've just put a new front set of tires on my '13 at 26k miles and I'm taking it as soon as I can to have it aligned.
