HC 305RL hitch weight

Hi all,

I really really don’t want to get a DRW truck but also don’t want to over my payload in a SRW F-350 diesel. The 5th wheel we are most interested in is the 305RL.

I’d like to get some examples of your loaded hitch weight from those of you that own a 305RL. I know the dry weight is quoted as 2270lbs but I also know that manufacturers numbers can vary wildly. I suspect this RV will be close enough to my max payload that I need to get some real world examples to get a better feeling for whether I need to down size RVs or not.

Thanks for the help!!

I'm in the process of ordering an 2017 F-350 right now. The GVWR is 11,500#. With the options I have decided on, I am expecting the payload on the sticker to be in the ballpark of 3300lbs.

I would think you would have more truck than is required. But having extra tolerance is good if you want to move up. Since HC are supposed to be lighter than Montana, you should have plenty of truck. My Mountaineer was listed at 2050 pin weight or so, but is actually 2400. So 3300 should be very good.

YOU will be perfectly fine with that truck. I have a HC 352rl and pull it with my 2016 2500hd duramax and it pulls like a dream.

GVWR on the 305 is 14,270. I'll bet your loaded PW is close to 2800. Just about where my HC lands. My 2016 F350 Lariat payload over 3400. Just the 2 of us and a small dog and little cooler in the truck so enough cushion to make me happy. Ours is the 370BR just a little longer and heavier than yours and I'm comfortable pulling it with the 350.

305 RL PIn Weight

2014 305 RL. Weighed at MOC 2015 Rally. Pin weight 2775 with full propane and some water in all tanks. We really enjoy our 305 and have had good service from it. Only a few small problems which I fixed myself except for a leak through the floor from underneath when driving in the rain that the dealer fixed in about 1 1/2 hrs after waiting for about three weeks for Keystone to OK the fix on warranty. Longest trip so far 5400 miles no problems for pulling with 2013 Ram 2500 diesel and brakes were fine also on long downhills. Bought from and serviced by RV Connections Panama City Fl. Nice people to work with.

2017 F350 FX4 Dually 6.7L (has 5500 lb. payload)...Dry hitch weight on our 2017 Montana 3811ms is 2705 lbs. according to the manufacturer (could vary as you said) and 13,400 lbs. dry weight. Measured the ride height empty and then again hooked up. Truck squats 2-9/16" when hooked up. I'm thinking of adding air bags and on-board air compressor, not because the truck can't handle the trailer, so that I can tow at closer to unhooked factory ride height and for a smoother ride on our rougher USA highways.

Just bought our 2017 305RL......2005 F-350..SRW.....AIR BAGS ! Rides like a dream....get the no drill air bags....can install them yourself in about 2 hours . Measure from the ball hitch on the rear bumper to the ground when the truck is unhooked . Hook up the rv...add air to bring it back to that measurement....mine is 42 lbs....level and smooth , takes the wear and tear off your leaf springs and rear shocks also.

Your F350 is all the truck you will ever need to safely pull a 305RL HC.

You would need to weigh that truck fully loaded ready to hook up then subtract that weight from the 11,500# GVWR that will give you the carry capacity left over for the pin weight of the Montana. My guess is that truck fully loaded and ready to tow would be in the 8k/8.5 K range. The only way to know the actual pin weight is of course to weigh the Montana fully loaded for the road. Do not overlook GCV WR.

The Carry capacity of the truck will be posted on the door post driver side.

Our 310 RE is similar to the 305. Our loaded pin weight is about 2800. There are some on here who will tell you a DRW is needed to tow anything. Your F350 will do fine.
