microwave/electrical

I have a 2015 3791RD. Yesterday as I finished cooking, I had the microwave fan going. It was on for at least 30 minutes. All of a sudden the RV filled with smoke. It tripped the breaker. It smells like electrical burn in the RV. We took the receptacle out and I don't see any melting and wires sticking out of wall seem normal. After a couple hours we plugged the microwave into a different outlet and it gets power. The smell seems to be in the microwave but it powers on. Has this happened to anyone before? Worried about electrical in the wall. Currently we have that breaker turned off.

I'm only guessing here but if the smell is coming from inside the microwave then it must be the unit failing. I wouldn't continue to run it If it tripped a breaker it surely has a problem.

Not sure I understand. Are you saying you can run the microwave fan without actually running the microwave?

Possibly a loose connection at the outlet overheated from running the fan. Is there odor in the cabinet where the outlet is? If so, remove the outlet cover and look/smell for burnt wiring. Loose connections can generate heat and cause insulation to melt (and worse).

Were you using the microwave too (or just the exhaust fan)? Lots of info on bad door switches on this forum.

This might be an excuse to upgrade to a new microwave oven. Ours died a couple years ago, and instead of getting another microwave convection oven, we went with a microwave only and it has more power and is a larger oven. If the wiring and outlet look good, its very likely the oven is bad.

Your exhaust fan burned out. Just replace it not the whole microwave.
