Tiny Pics

Was wondering how you keep track of where your pics are on tiny pics. I put a groundhog in my sig and got it put on here but wondered how you know where they are. I have the Giff saved on my hard drive.

Took the Giff off. Checked the site and they are copyrighted. Got to check with them first.

I just reload it to TinyPics and get a new URL.
I simplifies trying to keep track of each graphic.

One piece of information. All graphics/photos and even this reply is copyrighted.
As a webmaster everything I ever put into one one of my websites was copyrighted the second I posted them to the internet. That included all photos, graphics and text. That applies to anyone posting a photo or text. It is copyrighted as soon as you hit the Submit button.
I have used the animated US flag you see in my signature for years on numerous web pages that I have built. Somewhere, sometime it wss originally copyrighted but not by me and no one has ever questioned it. Most graphics that are not personal in nature such as my flag or your groundhog have been saved and renamed so many times it would be nearly impossible for anyone to prove it is there property. Now if the groundhog is a photo of "Punxsutawney Phil" that could be a different issue

I keep a folder with a copy of the original. I also have a text file. In that text file I have the name of the file that's in the folder I mentioned and also have the tinypic url for that file. That way I can look at the folder to pick the one I want and easily find it in the text file to get the url.

Here's a sample of that text file. These are not underlined in my text file. This forum does that (* inserted so these will print):

Steve How do you get the URL to your folder. I tried copying and then paste and wouldn't work. Thought sure it would.

I put the graphics or photos on the site. I put the graphic up when I want to use it. After that I forget about the URL. If I want to use that same graphic again I merely upload it again. It's trouble enough keeping track of the graphics in my computer files I'm not even considering keeping track of what I have at TinyPic.

I have looked thru some of the stuff on there and all I have to say is some folks are really strange in the stuff they put on there. The "No nudity or offensive pictures!" apparently does hold up. There is some XXX rated stuff on there.

I haven't looked at what's on tinypics but think I'll do that in a few minutes. I just put my own stuff there.

Ron, I paste the url in the text file. If you really want it in the folder, rightclick/new/shortcut and then put the url in the shortcut. You'll have to dump the img tags if you do that. I'd recommend to create a text file. In the folder I have the actual picture files that I put on tinypics. I'll use thumbnails to find the one I want quickly. In the text file I have the name of that picture file and next to it I put the tinypic url. If that doesn't make sense let me know and I'll try to say it better.

Okay, I want to do some of this because I can use some of it at work but there is no way I can be associated with TinyPics. I work for a school district. So Steve and Glenn, can't you find us something else? Could we create a site of our own? Kind of a sub MOC? But then we would need a server that is up all the time, right?

Or pay for space on a server that is up all the time. Since this is a free site, I wouldn't expect that to happen. You can get space on PictureTrail for pretty cheap. I'm paying $19.95/year for 50mb or 500 pictures. With that service I get "Full Auction/Posting Support" which means I can display a picture here, like this.

They also have a free basic service limited to 36 pictures. I know you cannot display the picture in a post with the free service. I think, but am not positive, you can put a link here to get to the picture. It may actually take the user to an album. You'd want to check that out.

If you happen to hae a premium yahoo email account you have some free space at geocities, also. In fact, you might be able to get some geocities space without the email account. You'd need to check that out.

I use dot photo for all the pictures I have taken. It doesn't cost anything and you can link to either a whole album or just one picture. As far as I know there is no limit. Click on the link in my sig. and check it out.

Does dot photo allow pasting the actual picture in here or just the link?

Ron, you could paste a url here with the img tags replacing the url tags and see what happens. What I sometimes do when checking something is start a reply, the hit the preview button. If it doesn't work, then I close the preview and just don't post it. It's a quick and easy way to test something without actually posting.

Steve I tried doing with the img tags and all it did was show a box with a red x in it. I have put the link up above with my post see if you can think of a way to do it. Will see if I can send dot photo a email and see if it will work.

Ron, I think I see the problem.

You need to use the URL for the actual photo and not the URL for the page the photo is on.

If you "right" click directly on the photo a window will open.
Click on "Properties"
This window will give you the "Address: (URL)".
ie..http://www.dotphoto.com/SAN1/14/A4/2...166C5423F9.jpg
Copy and paste that URL into your post and than add the [img] tags

How do you want to reduce it.

bytes or pixels?

It is 42,263 bytes. Would load faster at 20,000 or less

It is 480 pixels wide by 360 high. Not to bad a size for displaying a photo but huge for something to be included in your signature.

I believe Steve knows of some free sites on the Net that will allow you to reduce the photo or let me know what you need done and I can do it for you.
