Free overnight at Harvest Host?

Has anyone used the harvest host service? They say free o/night no hookups at farms and wineries.

I can't say I've heard of it. Where did you hear about this? What exactly is it?

Yes, we have heard of it and read about it but have never taken the opportunity to try using it..sounds cool I guess....Having been to many farms and wineries I just wonder how much space they would have to handle the Montana, wineries can be awful tight at times....

I think you have to join (don't recall the fee) before you can get the list of avail places.

Ah, the website explains everything (I still need to read more).

It's $35 per year membership for RVers to use the service and free membership for the place who hosts RVs.

Very interesting and another possible alternative to Wally World or other overnight stores that allow this. I suppose the biggest difficulty is it seems many of these places are off the beaten path for many of us who want a cheap overnight like this to get somewhere else relatively quickly.

I have a friend that uses it all the time. They say there is always friendly people and they always have fun. Fee is $35.00 only limit is no H/U and limied locations in some areas. The idea is fun and have thought about it my self.

In the two years that we have been members of Harvest Hosts we have only used it twice. We look ahead every day when we are on the road for locations. Sometimes it just doesn't fit the schedule. Our two experiences have been great. One was a winery/restaurant in Kentucky and the other was an apple farm and winery in Michigan on our way to the Goshen Rally. Both times there was plenty of roomy parking and we used our generator after everyone went home for the night. Sure, it is free but you might be spending way more than you normally would for the great produce and wines they offer, but it is really a fun option if you have the time and schedule to find a spot that may be off your route.
