Propane use

Hello, we are full timing this winter in our 3440rl and I am trying to figure out what our propane use might be? Average low temps are around 20 and highs around 40. Currently we have one 1500 watt ceramic heater. Power is .10 cents per kilowatt and I was able to find propane for .96 a gallon if I bring the tanks to them.
This is a great forum!
Thank you,
Flintlock

A couple years ago, we were in temps in the low teens over night, and at times barely 30 during the day, and at that time, we were using a 7 gallon tank of propane in two days. When it warmed up, use was much less. I would recommend using the rig's propane heater to help protect your plumbing system from freezing, as there are ducts into the belly area that helps prevent the lines and tanks from freeze damage.

Here in Redding the temps get down right cold. Last year we got temps down in the high 40s for three full days! Burr....Perhaps I should not have responded to this thread....

WOW! Propane for .96 gal? I would buy a 100 lb tank and make fewer trips. Where is this cheap propane?

We were in Memphis last year in January and the propane was more expensive than electric unless you were to go get a large tank like a 250 or 500 gallon and have the bobtail (gas truck) fill it. The small tanks are too expensive to use to heat all winter. and there were a few units in the park that had the large pigs.

i would also suggest a larger tank. As stated you will need to run your furnace as well as your heaters to keep your water lines from freezing. You will also need to Insulate and heat your water line or buy a heated water hose.

Good morning and thanks for all the information. Artemus now that is funny, I lived in Redding for 10 years and yes the winters and spring are beautiful, we won't tell anyone else about the summers though!
There is a Propane company that will deliver and set up a 120 gallon tank here in the park but their prices are $2.65 per gallon. The front desk says they have a contract with them and that is who you must use. I found a company in Redmond Oregon, (CoEnergy Propane) 18 miles away that will do the same thing for $1.54 but I can't use them. Their at the pump price is $.95. So I am debating weather to get some more 30, 40 or a 100 gallon tank, I don't Really want to wrestle one of those but may have to.
Thanks,
Bill

Agree with rohrman that you will go through a 30# bottle in 2-3 days at those temperatures. $20 for a 30# bottle isn't a bad cost, but it will add up fast over the entire winter. Go with the larger bottle and the convenience will be well worth it.

At our New Mexico home base we have the large tank with truck delivery. Since it only needs to be filled a couple of times a winter we would rather have the convenience and lack of wear and tear on the body than haul tanks every week and save a little money.

We've got a ceramic and a Big Buddy heater, but still set the furnace to kick on at about 64 - 66 degrees. Most of the 'auxiliary' heat rises up to the bedroom to keep us warm and the furnace will come on two or three times a night to warm the pipes & basement. This has worked for us & kept propane use manageable.
