Pin Box Bolt Torque

I am interested in checking torque on the bolts that mount the Mor/Ryde pin box to the frame of our 2012 3585SA, but not sure what the torque setting should be. Not having a problem, but just wanting to check them. Thanks.

You're welcome, I guess that's something I should check.

I took the time to cut out the torque chart from 8.1al's link. The good news is that I pulled the torque chart out and here it is:

TORQUE CHART
Torque Foot lbs
BOLT.....GRADE 5.....GRADE 8
SIZE.......Zinc.........Flange
1/2-13.......65...........80
5/8-11......135..........170
3/4-10......220..........280

The bad news is you have to know the size and type of bolt to determine the torque. Can anyone provide how to tell? WeBeFulltime, do you know what you have?

1/2" bolt ... 3/4" wrench
5/8" bolt ... 15/16" wrench
3/4" bolt ... 1 1/8" wrench

Unless you have some heavy duty fastner

The bolts on my 3402Rl Mor/Ryde pin box are 5/8" grade 5 bolts, you can tell that because they have the three slashes shaped like a Y on the head of the bolt. If they were grade 8 bolts they would have 6 slashes, no markings would represent a regular bolt.
Torque should be 135 - 170 lbs.

Hope that helps.

Whoa, I just saw my table isn't aligned very well. Based in Irlpguy's description the torque should be 135 ft lbs. See above that I tried to fix the table. 170 is for the Grade 8 hardware. In my case I hope I have Grade 5 and small bolts because I do NOT have a torque wrench that goes beyond 150 ft lbs.

The font used and the spacing may still distort the view of the table (the link provided by 8.1al and scanning down to the end of the document will also work). There should be 3 columns, one for the Bolt size, a second for the Grade 5 zinc hardware and a third column for the Grade 8 hardware and thanks to dieselguy on how to tell the markings for what bolts you do have. I can never remember that kind of stuff.

I think everyone will figure it out Art if they go to the link, knowing whether it is a Grade 5 or Grade 8 bolt is the important thing. I described how to tell that. I think they are likely all to be Grade 5 bolts.

Torque for 5/8 - Gr.5 = 135
Torgue for 5/8 - Gr.8 = 170

As dieselguy points out the 5/8 bolt has a 3/4" head (socket/wrench)
