Rusted Hydraulic Rams

Checked my slide out rams, was surprised to find them extremely rusted due to the salt air at the coast where our 2020 Montana is located!! Afraid to cycle them now, worried it will harm the Ram seals when they retract! Will try to clean them up. Anyone have this problem.

We spent 3 months in Key West. EVERYTHING that wasn't painted, rusted. Bikes, truck and rig.
Someone told me after you clean all the rust off use "Fluid Film" and spray it on any unpainted surface.
IT WORKS!!!

There’s something in my owners manual or maybe it’s a Lippert bulletin, I can’t remember which, about wiping down the rods with oil at certain intervals if they are exposed for extended periods and more often if in a salty air environment. I just use a little left over fork oil on a rag.

I think this is best practice for rust preventative measures.
What do you do if they have already rusted ?

I’d probably put the oil on fine steel wool and see how it goes.
