Solar Charge Controller

The solar charge controller continues to illuminate after the batteries have been removed. Charging Status is illuminated at the power indicator, not charging. The display screen Indicates "WET". I'm thinking that's because there's snow on the roof panel. Also displaying 601 in the area that usually indicates battery strength. Is this normal? Is the power source for the controller panel coming directly from the solar panel? Should I disconnect the solar panel wiring at the panel? Remove a fuse? Leave it as is until spring? Absolutely do not want to damage anything. TIA for all help.

I believe the rule of thumb is
Disconnect the panels from the controller BEFORE Disconnecting the batteries. When connecting, connect batteries to the controller first, then connect the panels.
Check your manual. I believe this is to prevent surges on the controller from the panels.
