Togo internet

Morning everyone ! Well I’m ready to pull the trigger on the Togo internet. It’s basically a rebranded winegard 2.0. Before I do I have install questions.

Has anyone installed one of these units?
Where did you get power from and where did you put the switch?

It seems the videos I seen they draw power from the fridge is that safe..?

Any and all advice will be super helpful !!

Thank you

Tony

We've had an AT&T hotspot for a number of years now, not TOGO, but it gives us WIFI for all our devices. I keep it plugged in the the AC outlet all the time, and should we not have power, there is a really good battery internally that maintains it's operation. If power was off long enough that we needed longer operation than the battery could provide, we have backup batteries we use to charge our phones that can be plugged in to recharge it's battery. I'm sure the TOGO system is good, but it sure seems to be a hassle to install when not pre-wired into the rig. Hope the system works as well as advertised.

Bob the new Nighthawks that ATT uses advises against leaving it plugged into power all of the time.

We’re using a Netgear 815S hotspot, and it doesn’t seem to be a problem. I think plugged in all the time keeps the charge at maybe 80%, I guess to protect the battery. What’s nice about this is, you can take it with you if you want your own WiFi instead of at a restaurant or hotel.

The Togo is a hotspot but also a WiFi booster and signal booster 4g lte. It’s the same thing as the winegard connect 2.0. It has good ratings. Before I start putting holes in the roof I wanted to see if anyone installed one of these and how they wired it.

Just did some investigating and have some thought to run by everyone.

Can I take off the antenna and put the Togo/winegard in its place ? The antenna has power right ..? Thoughts on where to put the on/off switch or maybe just use the switch behind the m bed tv that powers the antenna??

If that doesn’t sound good how do I access the cables in the ceiling? By the m bed, I see the 2 pvc pipes and can feel the wires coming out.

I think the switch needs to be in the bedroom unless someone has a better idea..? Thank you !

Tony

Not sure which OTA Antenna you have, but I know that the Winegard Bat Wing uses 12 VDC power, I would bet money your ToGo is more than likely 5 VDC

The Togo does take 12volt power, same as the winegard. Just not quite sure how to run the power and the switch. I think it’s best behind the master bed tv just don’t know where the wire chases are or how to access them.

Any power to the OTA antenna system is applied at the booster inside the rig where the booster switch is located. There is not 12volts at the antenna on the roof. You can verify that by checking the coax at the antenna, as there would have to be an additional lead for power, which does not exist.

Yeah I figured. I would like to mount the into above the master and run the power and switch behind the tv. Not to comfortable drilling a hole straight through To behind the tv. Is the the only way to do it..? How would CW install this type of unit ..?

When I had our Winegard Trav'Ler dish installed years ago, they had to bring three cables in from the roof, and have never had a leak from that installation. They used a cable entry plate along with Dicor self leveling roof caulking. The plate is at this link: https://www.amazon.com/Winegard-CE40.../dp/B009LX1JWU

Thank you for the feedback. It does come with the plate and I have the dicor on hand. Just want to make sure I have everything in order before putting a hole through the roof ! Lol. I do plan on going from inside out so it’s right where I need it inside. Hope there is nothing wrong going that direction.

**update**

Well I purchased and installed the Togo system. Lots of dicor, screws and drilled the hole through the roof. Came in right next to the tv in the master. Wired it to the 12volt plug which I will never use. Inline 3 amp fuse used eternabond to keep the wire down left a gap to allow for water to drain and sealed the plate where it goes in the trailer. All in all the install was not bad at all.

Went to winegard and purchased the unlimited internet for 360 a year. Connected all my (3) fire TVs. Had all 3 connected and streaming tv no problems. Where I live I only get 1 bar so that’s good !!

So far I’m happy !

**update**

We went to Vegas for a week, this was the first trip with the new ToGo system since I installed it. We had 2 bars at Nellis AFB, and we were able to stream At&t TV no problem, Netflix no problem, Amazon Prime no problem, and Plex no problem. I had enough bandwidth to watch TV on all 3 tvs and remote log in to my server at home, all while the wife was surfing the internet on her phone.

I must say its a win in my book !! I would recommend for those looking for unlimited internet, and to stream TV with no caps.

Tony
