Wi FI Reception Improvements

I’m considering using the Hawing HWREN1 Hi-Gain Wireless-300N Range Extender to improve WiFI reception while staying in numerous RV parks. Do any of you have experience with this or recommend another approach that doesn’t include getting 3G/4G service?

I do not have any experience with those. I thought you had to connect those extenders to the wireless router, not to your wireless device.
But signal strength is often only one of the problems. I have been in parks were I had a strong wifi signal, but due to limited bandwidth it was barely useable for anything more than checking e-mail and minimal web browsing. And sometimes not even that.

I am using a WiFiRanger Sky unit: http://www.wifiranger.com/powerful-wifi

The unit sits on top of your TV antenna and is powered by the antenna coax.

We use the Pepwave Surf Mini for $99 from 3gstore.com and find it does a great job picking up CG WiFi and injecting it into our LAN.

X2 on the 3gstore.com. Call them, tell them what you have and what you want to accomplish and they'll help you get there. We went a different way than you're going, but they will help you find the most cost effective way to get what you want and need.

How does the WiFiRanger Sky unit get it's power from TV antenna coax. I was unaware that the coax carried any power

On most RV antennas the preamplifier is in the antenna and power (+12 Vdc)is fed from the box on the wall inside the trailer (usually has a red or green LED) where you switch between antenna and cable. The Sky unit also has the option to feed power to it via a network cable (with a power adapter).
