Well, I don't know about all that tech stuff but . . . this is my second month with the MIFI and thru 4 states and various signal strength it has performed flawlessly. It's not super fast and does have a limited range, but works fine for my "surfing". I'm not trying to sell anything or justify expensive gear I've already purchased so maybe I'm just looking through a narrow little portal here.
Best Regards,
Jerry

I realize this is quite an old post from the beginning but thought I would ask a question that someone may have experienced. The MIFI does not have any external antenna jacks but has anyone used a Wilson Sleek Signal Booster for MiFi? If so, how did it work?

Bill and Carol,
We switched from the Verizon AirCard to the their MiFi system in June or July of 2010. I was somewhat hesitant to make the move but have been very happy with the change. We now can connect up to 5 separate WiFi devices at any given time. We worried about the connectivity issue since it has no provision for an external antenna but have been very pleased with the coverage as well as the speed. We have had connections in places I was very doubtful of so the additional antenna connection has been a non-issue.
Sorry I could be no help with your question but in actual operation we thus far have not had the need for more antenna. Good luck. Dennis

Thank You for the information. I have searched many options with aircards, modems and antennas and found out you can get a booster for the Mifi today. Also, my local verizon store says I an get a free mifi and service up to 3Gb for $35. I really don't think I will use more than that. I think I will try the mifi at home here in the woods and see what I get. I know if not satisfied I can return it within 30 days..... Thanks again....

I just got the mifi a little over a month ago. Been stationary at the time being here in Gulf Shores AL. Its worked good for this area but it should as its close to big cities. I bought the sleek from the 3G Store and adapter for my Wilson external antenna. I can't really give you any results for the sleek yet as there has been no need for it here. Also 3 Gig of use seems like a lot but its marginal at best. If you do any web surfing for any length of time it eats up time like crazy. Also the more used web sites have a lot of graphics on them recently and they are helping to use up your time. Last summer I was getting by with 3 to 4 Gig easy. The last couple months I have been up to 10G. Mind you there are two of us using this at the same time quite a bit.
If I was to do this again, I would go to Mellenicom for $59.95 a month and get 20G of time per mo. Thats a bargain and people using it say its as good as anything else out there. Just take your time and look into your options. Another place to look into this with a person that is in the know is Jack Mayer on Escapees forum. He has a Web site here http://jackdanmayer.com/communication.htm
On reading this again I should also say that I am with Verizon and now get 10G per month use for a hefty proce of $79.95. To get the 10G you must go with the mifi.

We got our MiFi through Virgin Mobile. The attractions to go with Virgin Mobile for us were:
1. No contract
2. Only buy time when you want or need it
3. $40 for 30 days of UNLIMITED data use
We will really be putting to the test at Quartzsite this year.
Jack

We just checked into Virgin Mobile MiFi. It is $150.00 to purchase and you need to spend $20.00 every 3 months to keep it active or let it go dormant and then re-activate as needed. It uses Sprint network connections according to our local dealer which is what we use for cell phone already. You do NOT have to have a contract for this - it is on a month to month as needed basis which was one of the attractive things to us as we do not full time.......yet.

We have the MiFi through Verizon and so far we are very satisfied with the service.
The MiFi was free and we are paying $35.00 monthly. The contract is no problem,
we have been with Verizon for over 15 years.
