Also for verizon air card users using VZ access.With the air card in the PC..NOT in any router. Call up the vzacess program and connect to the internet, Put your mouse pointer over the green signal bars at the VERY BOTTOM of the vzacess window and you will read the RSSI figure..That is the real signal strength that you are receiving from the tower you have acquired, A number of between 65 or so to around 80 is about normal Example the number might read
78 DB.. The lower the better. A high number ,, say 95 indicates a weak received signal and may indicate a need for a external antenna ot a signal booster. Note that signal strength and download speed speed need to be addressed separately. Signal strength (RSSI) is affected by many different things..distance from the acquired tower,
trees, hills, weather. It may be higher at sunrise or sunset.
Download speed is determined by the capabilities of your air card. The verizon 650 is capable of 400 to 700Kbps.. a RevA card up to 1.4 Mbps.. However the ability to receive the rated download speeds is dependent upon the technology of the verizon network at the tower you are acquiring and that is the weak link in the verizon or any system.
Verizon marketing makes a blanket statement that you can receive a certain speed and that is NOT true. Speed test and through put adjustment as suggested above will show your true speed and signal strength..Things marketing does not want us to know about.
