60 does not go across NM and Texas,,It does not leave AZ and it is a uphill pull to show low, more than one 7% grade but not a problem. We are going to Mobile, Ala from Apache Junction and are doing 10 all the way.

US60 does run to and through Texas but I have not run on it.I go I-10 to Las Cruses and 70 to Clovis where I catch 60 to Amarillo.I would bet that 60 would be some pretty good climbing.

Rich, you had me worried for awhile there. I thought maybe they hung the highway sign upside down, and the road in front of my tire store was actually US 09, .

I don't know about Arizona, but US 60 from I 25 east, has only 1 kinda steep grade, between the interstate and Mountainair, and is easily navigated pulling a 5th wheel. The highway is 2 lane until you get to Texico, then it's 4 lane to Amarillo.

The old eyes failed me on that one. We drove up north of Globe Az on 60..about 60 miles.Elevation Apache Junction @1700 feet and we passed through 5000 feet on the way up..Looks like some nice grades in NM also. Looks like a spectacular drive but very doable. We are leaving here March 11th and doing the 10 all the way through to Mobile , Al for a FCRV campvention with stops in El Paso and San Antonio.

Rich, you'll have to buzz over to Foley, AL for some of those throwed rolls at Lamberts to eat with your fried okra!

We are leaving for home tomorrow. We will be taking 60 to Vaughn, NM then 54. This is the route everybody around here have been telling me to take. It is also the route my folks took for ten years when they came down to the valley of the sun.

60 is a route I've wanted to take for years but every time I've had the opportunity it's been winter and likely a snowy, icy route. Some day we will take that route. It looks to be a beautiful drive and that's what we like. So, I'd appreciate hearing your impressions, those of you who have are or going to drive that route.

Been to Lambert's at Foley, got the throwed rolls and the fried okra (once is enough). Definitely woud recommend Lambert's.

Steve we ran 60 out of Quartzsite to Apache Junction then on up to Show Low, Az.. just spectacular and easily doable in the camper. Also do not miss The Apache trail (RT 88) out of Apache Junction DO NOT under any circumstances consider taking the camper. This was one of the few times I wished we had a SWD truck..or better yet the Honda Civic..Know you are considering this area next year. Lake Havasu is a must see but we were there 6 weeks,,way to long (We have family there) 2, 3 weeks maybe.. Apache Junction and the Phoenix area is just great. We like Apache Junction because it is just East enough of Phoenix where we feel a bit more comfortable.

OH BOY...One of the nice things about being a Gypsy Rv'er is that you can change plans at the drop of a hat because you have no real plans to begin with. We were going to drop down The El Paso way the on into Mexico when leaving here but after giving it some thought we decided against meeting some Mexico Aliens and going to Roswell, NM and looking for some pointy headed aliens.Looks like RT 60 is the most direct route to Roswell but none of our maper programs will do that route willingly.. We see some real good elevations along that route. Has anyone been RT60 across MN.. We have been as far up as Show Low AZ with no problem.. We have no problem with the truck/camper and the ability to do the tow but ole Rich does not like white knuckle driving*****... Opps ..In light of a previous offensive post that I made concerning ethnic groups We also Apologize to all pointy headed aliens in and around the Roswell,NM area.. and those out in the cosmos enroute.

Rich, We had NO trouble taking 60 all the way to Vaughn, NM. Very pretty drive and the TV did great. The salt river canyon was worth the drive. Tranny shifted but took the grades in stride. See you and Helen in June.

Ahhh, yes, that is one of the many drives I want to do. We have done part of 60 in Arizona. We came from the east on US 70 and turned onto 60 just east of Globe and took it on down to the Mesa area. That was a pretty spectacular section of 60. I'm anxious to drive the rest of it in Arizona plus on into New Mexico. Someday we'll be in the area the right time of year.
