How do you carry generator gas?

What do you use to carry gasoline supply for generator(s) and where do you carry it? I bought myself two Champion 2200 generators for Christmas, and plan on securing them in the truck bed. Will now also need a safe as possible means to carry some fuel for it. We don't boondocks, so will only need it for power outages or overnight stops without hookups. So 3-5 gallons should be sufficient. Looking for something heavy duty.

Thanks in advance

to me these are the best plastic cans, first got one when i bought kawasaki my side by side. no special handle to hold to get the gas to flow. why these do not have the special handle i am not sure but not complaining. dont necessary have this brand so unsure of the the quality of it i got mine at the kawasaki dealer Yes you can get cheaper cans but this works for me

if it is for only overnight, just keep the tanks full. and if you want some extra fuel just keep a gas tank in the back of your truck...just secure it.

If you are not doing multiple night stops without power you could just keep the gennies filled and not carry a tank. I carry an empty 2.5 gallon plastic tank in my truck bed which I can drag to the filling station when I need more.

When I know we're going to boondock, I carry a full 6 gallon plastic gas tank. I carry it in the truck bed, right rear corner. I tie it to the truck with a chain and lock going through the tank handle to the right rear hook in the truck bed.

I have an Onan generator mounted in the OEM prepped position with marine quick connect fuel line. I have a 2 1/2 gallon marine tank bungee'd to the fiver.

I also have a 6 gallon marine tank that I carry in the bed. I can run the generator overnight if we need to run the A/C on this tank.

I like this model gas can. Two handles. You can put the nozzle where you want it the push the button to start it flowing. You have complete control. Keep it tied down in the bed behind the passenger side. I have a roll up truxedo tonneau cover over the bed.

When we travel I use 2, 5 gallon cans for the 2 generator inverters. I put those 2 gas can inside one of those black and yellow containers from Costco to catch any spillage. I also carry 5 gal of diesel for emergencies, again inside it’s own container.

I just secure a 5 gallon can in the back of the truck with the generators. Has worked well for 10 years of full timing.

Make sure to treat the fuel with Stabil or some other to keep the fuel from going bad. If I don't use the fuel within a year I dump it in the tank of my car and then buy fresh fuel and treat it with Stabil right away. Only treated fuel goes in my generator because I don't use it that often.

Last year when we went cross country over the summer from MD to Yellowstone we took a total of 4 30lb propane tanks. We (Wife and I) travelled with our two kids, Dog two cats, kids Guinea pigs. On some days the cats rode in their carriers in the 5th wheel running the on board onan with the ac. Kept it nice and cool. Had one of our traveling companions break a suspension part and we ended up sitting in our camper at a rest stop. Didn’t really have any issues finding propane on our travels but we did have a predator 3500 with a empty 5 gallon tank we carried just Incase one of our traveling companions needed it. Personally I have found it easier to carry enough fuel for however many days we will be camping without going to town. 4 propane tanks kept us comfortable for 3 days when we were camping on assateague island and we had propane to spare.

Definitely agree about the Stabil. I always use non-ethanol gas. Not sure how easy it is to find at other areas, so I want to be able to take a few gallons with me.

I have 8' Bed, a 30+ gal. Fuel tank and a stand alone below the rail bed tool box in the bed. Box has plenty of room for two Honda 2000s, a fuel can and chains and tool box. Best $400 investment I ever made.

Stabil

Remember gas goes bad if you don’t use it often add a gas treatment to the gas tank and the generator.

Yep, that’s the same one I carry in the front of the truck bed.

1st I always use ethanol free gas. Always leave home with genny tank full. If planning on electric hookup a 2 1/2 gallon tank is brought. Possibly of no electric for more than a short time i’ll Add a 5 gallon tank.

I carry my gas in a metal 5 gallon can that is sealed. Wife wanted the safest can available while I was trying to save a buck. She won that discussion. I use a harbor freight battery powered pump to fill things up and drain the fuel at the end of each season.
