New Members from Paso Robles, CA

Hi everyone, my wife and I just placed our order for a 2018 3660RL and should be taking delivery sometime in the middle of May. Super excited. We're planning on traveling around the country for the next year or two since our jobs are portable. Hope to meet some of you out on the road!

Welcome Paso Robles. Hope you have many miles and good memories ahead. A reminder if you're not already aware...the 3660 shows it has a GVWR over 15,000lbs. Since you're in good old California, you'll need to take your truck and trailer to the DMV for the state law required testing to obtain your non-commercial class A license.

Welcome from SoCal. You will learn tons of great things from this great forum. Don't forget to do a search for PDI (pre delivery inspection). Take your time and don't take delivery until EVERYTHING is acceptable. Once you sign and take delivery repairs can take a long time.

Not if you dont tell them, I am willing to bet no CHP officer will even check that sticker, if pulled over. Just drive smart and then you wont have a problem at all.

Hi John. Back when I first learned i didn't have the correct license classification I started asking around for info. I'm retired LEO and asked at my former employer finding that only one officer--who happened to be the commercial traffic enforcement officer--was aware of the license class requirement. I then happened to contact some friends still with our local CHP office, asking them about the matter. Not only did they confirm knowing about the classes, stated they will always check class status whenever they've had other reasons to stop/contact an RV'er on California roads, knowing where to quickly look on all RV trailers for GVWR info. I was a little surprised to learn they appeared to be very cognizant of the issue and confirmed they won't hesitate to issue citations for driving out of class. So to be sure, don't give CHP a reason to pull you over to begin with...but if they do...

Paso wine Rver, We are criminals in only one state in 50, and my son is a CHP officer in Cali, and said he would never bother pulling over a 5th wheel trailer, unless they were doing something really stupid. We are on our third trip since buying our 2017 Monty last year, and have done two 2,500 mile trips, and are on a 4,500 mile trip right now. Congrats with joining the Monty club and reading this forum. They will help you with many small details the dealers leave out. Enjoy traveling, and just stay out of Cali, and you will be fine. Especially since Cali only lets you go 55 mph. We find that most states let us cruise at 65 mph.
