Bill - welcome to the forum! You will find lots of help here.
For each of your posts and questions - include your year and model number of your Montana. There are several types of water heaters…post your water heater type if you know it…but at a minimum, we need to know your RV year and model.

I had a similar problem this summer. Took it to dealer in spring and had them put in a new electric element. Worked for a while and then seemed to work and then not work.
Took it back in the fall and they dug deeper and found the wire from the outside switch to the element had rubbed on the skinny iron sheet around the heater and wore thru the wiring. Dealer said lucky there wasn't a fire because the wire was melted!

Biil,
Welcome to the forum.
Is the issue no flow when hot selected or good flow but cold water? Is it all faucets?

Are you saying, "at the faucet" .... you have water flow one time, and another time there is no water flow at all? (the hot side of the faucet). If so, is this happening at all the faucets? or just one faucet?
Your post is vague and can be taken several ways. Yes, please provide more details. We're here to help. That's what we do best!

Hey, I have the same year Mountaineer!! If the trickle is just in the kitchen, there is a filter screen under the sink where the faucet line connects (I think). It it is the whole house that it trickles, I would think something got stuck in the line where they hooked up the new WH. Good luck!

To answer your question there is a check valve on the outlet of the water heater. Generally when people report issues with it the problem is not intermittent. Most common is low flow and the common cause is crud or debris in the check valve. I had to change the check valve on mine years ago. Had pretty good access to it by removing the back wall of the storage area but it was a bear to break loose. Once loose easy swap.

I would remove the anode rod and flush the tank with a Camco flush wand.
Camco Camper & RV Water Heater Tank Rinser - Improves Water Heater Function by Flushing Out Sediment - Easily Attaches to Standard Garden Hose & Features Convenient Shutoff Valve (11691) https://a.co/d/9e3PkKi
Then reassembling the tank and remove and clean each faucet aerator.
If the problem continues, you may have debris in the pipe jamming in the faucet valve. If so, you would need to back flush the faucet to push the debris back into the tank, then flush the tank again.

Does your camper by chance have a tankless water heater? I'm not sure if RV units have this feature, but the residential models do. They all have a flow sensor that signals the burner to start when it senses hot water demand. The residential models (maybe RV too) have an electronic controlled flow control valve. It's job is to throttle the flow to the flow rate it can heat to set point. Temperature is always the control point.

Sounds to me like the check valve at the outlet of the water heater is failing. That’s the top pipe. Some don’t have a check valve but most do,
It is there to stop antifreeze from entering the water heater when winterizing. Now if you never need to winterize, remove the check and with a screwdriver, knock out the internals and reinstall it.

It will probably fail again soon. Like I said earlier, if there is no need to winterize your rv then you don’t need any internals to that check valve. If you do need to winterize, I would buy a spare check valve just to have one on hand for when it happens again. If it’s easy to change out, I would do it now and not to find the problem in the middle of taking a shower
