Grand Canyon Railway RV Park in Williams is decent.

We stayed at Camper Village. It was okay, and somewhat closer than Williams.

If you can get in, the GC Trailer Village inside the GC worked for us the in 2015.

We stayed at one just outside the South Entrance at Grand Canyon Camper Village in 2016 and IMO, it was a dump. Way off level sites, packed together, power pedestal that occasionally shorted out, water spigot that needed Vise Grips to operate and useless staff that didn't care.

There are better choices near Williams but they are about 60 miles over a road that could be better

I recommend this and take the train to the South Rim. Fun trip.

We liked the Trailer Villager inside the park at the South Rim. Good pads and hookups, plenty of room, and park transportation comes to village entrance. If you take the train from Williams you only get to be in the park for a short time (about 2-4 hrs) . We stayed for 3 days and enjoyed every minute.

We also stayed in Trailer Village and would do so again without hesitation. It was nice to be able to park the truck and leave it there as the shuttles took us wherever we wanted to go. We did have a lot of elk come through the campground.

Concur with AZ Traveler and WeBeFulltime.
The train station is right across the street.
You don't have to try to find a parking spot at the Grand Canyon.

A couple of years ago we booked a train, buffet and tour bus package online.
We took the first train up. The tour bus took us to the buffet. Then the bus took us around different stops. We then had about 3 or 4 hours to wander around ourselves before taking the last train back.

Watch out for the "train robbers".
