Wow, easy awning replacement!

I have been dreading this last project, but the hail beat the old awning to pieces so couldn't put it off 'til fall.
Pulled the awning out 6", Put the feet down to the ground, removed the 4 lags and one screw that fastened the awning in the groove and slid it out by myself standing on a small scaffolding I have.
DW helped me walk it over to some saw horses, unwound the awning the rest of the way, drilled out the three pop rivets on the SPRING end(no release catch), slid the end off 2", then slid the old awning out and the new one in. Re-pop riveted the end cap, rerolled the awning, DW helped walk it back to the Monte and slide it in the wall slot. Replaced the screws and Bob's Your Uncle!
I thought it would be a hassle to change and it was really easy with this method I think I read here.
Going to buy another one with a bent tube and keep it around for a spare.

Glad it worked out well for you.
Sounds like a great back up plan!

Excellent! I've always heard the spring tension would release and is an arm breaker. No problems with that, apparently, huh? Thanks for the report.

sreigle,
As long as you dont pull the end clear out of the tube the spring just tries to spin the leg, which it can't do.
I've read all kinds of ways with cotter pins, vise grips and strap wrenches, this seemed easy and was. Getting the holes lined up to put the pin in is a real pain, I've done that before, this was so much easier. It always seems the jobs I dread and put off go really easy, the ones I think will be quick and easy I just jump into and usually take 5 times longer than I planned.

We just made that trip. We started in Florida and stayed in Foley for a while to duck the storms. Shreveport to Dallas and then on up to Amarillo was a great ride. Nice roads and we found two really nice campgrounds you might consider. One was Shallow Creek RV and Golf Resort just east of Dallas. The town was Gladewater. Presently we are in a nice park east of Flagstaff called Meteor Crater RV Park.

We stayed at a few clunkers in between but these two are worth stopping for.

Have a safe and fun trip. We're headed for Oregon too. Maybe we'll bump into each other.

The cap on the left side of the awning is the one you can slide out 2 inches without getting a broken arm or wrist I am thinking. The cap on the right is dangerous isn't it?

Just replaced mine, fabric came fro PPL in Houston, 16' wide, $180. plus shipping.
