Starlink upgrades their network and terms of service

My wife pointed out an email that she just got that greatly expanse what you can do with your Starlink. Here’s below what it says.

Effective immediately, you will have access to the following features with Starlink Roam:

In-Motion Use
International Travel
Coastal Coverage

An updated Terms of Service will go into effect starting 10/10/2024.

I'm guessing they already increased our price then. I would like to look for something more affordable that works everywhere but right now, I just don't think there is that option.

Starlink was pretty good for the money when it started. I think maybe $100 or 125 a month. they have a monopoly now and will continually jack the price up, I think.

I stayed at a campground in WY 2 years ago and they had just started using it. Small CG with maybe 12-15 sites. Excellent speed.

Yea I got same email. Logged in and yea was $150 last year and will pay $165 this year. Being able to only turn it on for the 2-4 months I need makes it worth it to me.

our starlink is going to drop in price for us! from $165 to $50/mo. theyve introduced new plans. We don’t need unlimited data so works better for us!

I think the $50 Roam plan has a 50 GB limit with $1 per gigabyte over 50GB.
$165 Roam plan is unlimited.

Yep. they've introduced several new plans. 50GB/month $50 and then $1 per gig if you go over. I probably wouldn't use it all since it's mainly work. Unlimited is $165 because I have the mobile version. Since you can start using it while driving it might be good to get work done for those riding along.

The 50 GB plan is a nice option. Also seeing the hardware on sale for $299 at various retailers.

You could always try the 50 GB plan and switch if you need more. You would break even with the unlimited roam plan at 165 GB ($50 + $115 @ $1/GB).

Estimates for data usage to stream movies.

that's good to know. I wouldn't have expected such a difference between providers. Most people probably can't see the difference at 10' viewing differnece between 720p and 4k

I see the hardware is $300 and a $50 plan is available. I also have read that it's compatible with the Winegard router. Does anybody know anything more about this I can't seem to get the answer on the internet. I'm going to call tomorrow. I have the router I hate to have wasted $500 for it

What exactly is your question? If you are wondering if it will work with your router. I would say it would. You might need and ethernet adapter if the starlink modem doesn't have it built in (Mine did not), and it was an additional $17. When you call, they should know.

We have the Winegard and according to DW it can connect to our SL router as it looks for a wifi or cell signal. However, it’s best to connect your phone, TV, computer directly to SL vs through Winegard, then SL.

Not sure how SL mini works for sharing locally. With the standard Starlink, if you have family, guests, or neighbors; you grant SL wifi access by sharing your SL password. If that concerns you, you can buy a separate router (to use with the SL router) and use the SL ethernet adapter purchased separately. Then set-up a primary and guest network on that separate router - similar to many home set-ups.

Looking at the Starlink standard. I want to incorporate my Winegard 1000. Don't want any LeftOverParts.

When you buy the starlink it comes with a router. You may be able to connect your wineguard to the router via wifi, but no need. You must use their router and it covers entire trailer with ease.
I mount starlink on rear ladder and run cable thru wet bay and connect to router that I leave under trailer in storage bay. No holes. Cable it comes with long enough. Easy peasy.

We have the Winegard 360 from the factory with a Verizon SIM card and also the standard Starlink. I tried using the Starlink as the internet source for the Winegard that way all devices only pointed at the Winegard. It would work and then drop out hours later and was not worth the headache. All devices except for the Victron now just point to Starlink and seems a lot more stable.
