Tired of Messy Oil Changes?
If you change your own oil, as I do, you might want to look into an "engine oil drain valve." It replaces the drain plug. Rather than unscrewing the drain plug, dropping it in the pan, and getting oil all over you, you just flip a lever (no wrenches) and the oil drains. If it comes out too fast, move the lever to slow it. I had one on a previous rig but couldn't find one locally. Go to www.fumotovalve.com or do a search on "engine oil drain valve." They're not cheap, but well made (brass ball valve construction)and I'm tired of oil down my arm and all over the driveway! I'm not selling these, just passing along something that worked for me!

You can also get a similar one for your water in fuel drain that you can do with your fingers stops all the mess.

Where can I get the water-in-fuel drain valve to fit my Ford PSD? That is a messy job, too, lying on my back under the rig!

From your ford dealer it was made for the bigger trucks such as the 450 550 but works in the 250 and 350

The Fumoto valves are an excellent product and I have used them on four different vehicles.
You can put a small 5/8" SS screw clamp on the valve body as another safety if you have a 4x4 and go offroad where a branch might do the two separate moves to the little valve lever ( highly unlikely ). I did this to my truck but did not bother on the cars in the family.

Thanks, Jon. I'll pick one up from the dealer and install it when I change the water seperator in a few weeks!

My water in fuel light came on and I decided to drain the fuel/water separator valve. I got fuel down my sleeve over my watch...what a mess. My watch band is ruined and I'm still trying to get the diesel fuel smell out of my shirt. I will get one of those valves. Thanks for the info.

Sounds like simple and elegant solutions to both situations. Thanks for the information!

Gungho, I checked with my ford dealer today and they could not tell me what to order for fuel filter drain. Did you replace your and if you did do you know that part number?

Gungho, I'm w/steves. I stopped by my Ford dealer today and they could find no such part for any of their diesels. Talked to their diesel mechanic and he knew of none generally available. All thought it makes sense. If you have any additional info, please share. I love the idea. Gotta be there somewhere.
Just called Fumotovalve, but I need to find the thread size to find out if they have one to fit our water seperator fitting. Will call Ford tomorrow.
