I have a 2012 Silverado HD, standard bed. I use a Husky low profile from Home Depot. It rides on the side bed rails. It is about 2 1/2” above the bed rails. My 2011 Montana Mountaineer clears without an issue. I have a TrailAir pin box and a Pullrite SuperGlide hitch. No bed cover. With an 8ft bed like yours, you have lots of choices.

I have a RDS tank/tool box combo. The space for tools is about 6" high and 15" deep. I could put a bed cover over this and I'm considering one but don't have it yet. I have a Demco Recon hitch and it all fits nicely. This also gives me an additional 50 gallons of fuel so I have 100 total. Simple toggle valve that allows me to fill the main tank. No pump or fuss. The install kit was about $110. There is enough room on both sides of the box to put a step stool and I need them to reach the hitch disconnect and the middle of the tool box. Any additional tools I carry in a bag in the truck.

I have the same size RAM and a 3121. I have the low profile CamLock box and have had no clearance issues in tight turns. I also like the box and it is deep enough to story my Honda generator.

Although it won't work with a bed cover, here's what I ended up with as far as aux tank and existing tool box. I have an extended cab with the OEM running boards that extend just ahead of the dually fenders, so I can step up and easily get into the box. I really wanted a fuel/toolbox combo, but most of the toolboxes with the shallow depth size (6" - 9") wasn't going to work for me. I did find a toolbox/ fuel tank combo that had a 18" deep tool box and 48 gallon fuel tank (RDS-72774), but I'd already committed to the tank shown.

BAKflip MX4

I just installed a BAKflip MX4 tonneau cover, and now plan to get a steel or aluminum toolbox that will fit under it. I have a PullRite SuperGlide hitch, so clearance is not an issue. I read the comments in this thread about various products people bought. Any additional suggestions for F350 with shortbed?
