SOFA SLEEPER MATTRESS REPLACED

When I got home this afternoon, I had a nice surprise waiting for me on the front porch. The replacement mattress I order for the sofa sleeper had arrived. I just finished installing it and it fits, looks and feels great I ordered it the same width but longer than the original and it is a full 4 inches thick and very comfortable. What an improvement. We will no longer feel badly about offering the the sofa bed to the occasional guest.

Where did you buy the replacement mattress? I like the sofa sleeper when we have the grand kids over but it is not to comfortable. Any info will be very appreciated!

Bob and Nancy,
Here are some links to a couple of different places. We went with the first one, Replacement Mattress' because of the reasonable flat shipping rate. We opted for the Platinum with dimensions of 53x72 which fits nicely. It also has 2 ties at the top and bottom of the mattress to secure it to the frame of the sleeper.

2. http://www.angelfire.com/az3/rvmattr...OVMTC=standard
3. http://www.seatingsystem.com/

Hope this helps.

Here is dumb question, does it still fold away when you close the sofa sleeper? The reason I ask is that it looks to be a little thicker, but looks wonderful!

Thanks!

Bob and Nancy,
To answer your question, yes it still folds away fine. Although the mattress is much thicker (4 inches) the sofa looks the same when it is folded and the cushions fit just as they did before.

What is the covering like on your new mattress? Did you have to ask for the tie down to be added to the mattress or is that included?

When you lay down on the sofa bed now with the new mattress do you still feel the "bar"?

The wife is very interested in this upgrade.

Thanks.

Me too! I use an air mattress now, but it makes the bed way too tall.

Thanks for the info Jack!

To answer your questions, the covering is quilted and looks like a regular mattress on the side you sleep on and the bottom is just a plain covering. Before I ordered I e-mailed the company I bought ours from and they said that the sofa/sleeper mattresses come with 2 ties at the top and 2 at the bottom. If you have concerns I believe there is a place to add comments or special instructions when you order or you can simply call them. I only laid on the mattress for a few minutes after installing it but I could not feel the bar. I can't say how it would feel for an entire night but it is a vast improvement over the "cheezy" piece of covered foam that came with the sleeper originally. Also, another nice thing is that when you pull the bed out after it has been tucked away in the sofa the mattress will actually flatten out on the frame in just a couple of minutes. Hope this helps.

Brad,
Is that the sofa air-bed that I see advertised for a couple of the Montana's or do you just put an air mattress on top of the stock mattress?

Jack,

I was too early for the airbed sofa when we ordered our Monty (It was just a twinkle in Daddy Keystone's eye back then). I just put an airmattress on top of the regular mattress. It works, but is way too tall. I could remove the regular mattress, but where would I put it for the night. I don't trust laying the airmattress directly on the bedspring.

However, thanks to your links, I think I found the solution. As soon as I verify measurements I think I will get the Airdream from sleep systems. I've got guests booked all through the summer this year and it would be nice if they could still walk the next morning!

I have a hite a bed mattress that you can get from any mattress store. My brother is 6'2 weighs 225 and is 60 years old, and says it works great. He sleeps on it for 3 weeks at a time.
