Aux fuel tank

I am thinking about getting an Aux fuel tank to put in the bed of my truck. Has anyone had experience with the type that feeds directly into the on board tank or having an aux with a refuel capability?

I bought the Transfer Flow for myself. I would do it again, even though the price is more than other types you can get.

Jay Bird, I bought the Transfer Flow OEM 45 gal that replaces the OEM 26 gal. Out of sight out of mind. Works great so far...Tied directly to onboard OEM fuel gauges....

I have 50 gal aux tank that feeds directly to the main tank. It maintains a balance of diesel between the aux and the main. I also have the in cab digital monitor that keeps track of the amount of diesel in each tank.

I was just wondering how much added weight does a 50 gallon tank add to the pin weight limits?

What is the best way to go? I'm not real keen about giving up my precious space in the bed of the truck, so, is there an add-on tank or do you just replace the existing tank. I have 34 gallons and would like to have more.

I believe that fuel runs about 8# per gallon which, in your question would be about 400#. I have difficulty satisfying my mind that with the emphasis on total weights, pin weights, etc., why would I want to add additional weight that I don't need? We have to stop often enough (at my age) in order to do natural things anyway so I just look for a fuel stop after I've run about 150-175 miles.

Orv,

You're right, I should stop before the 200 mile mark, but sometimes it just isn't convenient, especially when we are dry camping. The extra fuel would make the difference between having to unhook and go get fuel, or not. I just hate to get fuel when the Monty is connected.

pparamore, thanks for the site information.

Check out TransferFlow web page. It will give the weights of the tanks and then multiple 7-8lbs per gal of fuel. I located a dealer and will get the 30gal to augment the 29 ihave standard.

You know guys I always thought the extra fuel tank was a bad idea as we also always stop every 200 miles or so. Well our next truck will have a extra fuel tank. As have learned on this, thus far 7300 mile trip..fueling, gas or diesel is a nightmare.. Few stations are RV friendly and we find our selves shoe horning into to small stations . Several times Helen has had to monitor my backing away from a pump because we could not make the turn out...I have had it..The extra tank will allow us to fuel when we choose to at a station that is RV friendly.

Hey Rich didn't I direct you to a nice Lake Havasu builder of those fuel tanks????? Now don't you wish you would have gotten one. Hey buddy, I am also going to get an additional tank. MUDCHIEF convinced me and also my last trip to RGV. There were time's I could have went the extra miles to the CG if I would have had that tank. It would make it a lot easier to pick and choose when and where. It would also allow you to get most of your fuel when not hooked to the 5er. Whole lot easier getting in and out of those NON FRIENDLY stations when you not towing.. Hope you and Helen are doing well my friend Later John

Well John,

You didn't direct the rest of us to the dealer in LHC. We'll be back there in about a month.....can you share the dealer information with the rest of us?

I need to do something about the fuel problem....!!

Thank you!

I did all the math and then the never stop but my wife wants off the rd every 150 anyway so why spend the 700 to $1000.00 to get a bigger tank to save 10cents a gal when you can get a gas card that gives a 5% rebate on all diesel so whats the big deal ,, also the more you pull into a reg station the better driver you get to be , remember you drive in a sq patten as a semi does , go past the corner then turn a 100 deg to get back

We just have a couple of 5 gal Walmart jugs full of diesel which gives us an extra 100 miles or so. Have not needed to use the fuel in them but it sure stops worrying when diesel stations are few and far between.

I also have a TransferFlow 50gal toolbox combo tank. This was the best add on I have done. Works well. It gives you the releif of not worring about finding a fuel stop when on the road, plus it is great when exploring the areas when you get set up at your camp site. You can fill up when and where you want, not when you have to. The tool box section is also a nice addition for locked storage.

John, We did visit that shop in LHC and learned a lot about extra fuel tanks. We will have one on our next truck, not this one. The extra tank has nothing to do with saving fuel money or traveling longer distances without stopping,It has everyting to do with making the rip less stressful and giving us the control over when and where we fuel. When Rich is wrong he is wrong and I was wrong on this issue.

For those headed to Lake Havasu check out for auxillary fuel tanks KSH MARINE www.kshmarine.com they will have your tanks, I sent Richfaa there and MUDCHIEF already has two of their tanks, one for his son and they are happy with them. hope this helps John
