Surge Guard installation

I have a 2006 3295RK and will be buying a surge guard 50 AMP. Has anyone installed the hard wired in my type of rig? Are there any advantages or disadvantages to the hard wired type vs the portable?
If you put in the hard wired type where did you install it?

I installed this guard on my 3295.Pull the power panel from the bathroom wall and you will see the main power line, from here you can determine how much line you have to work with.I drilled two holes in the ceiling of the washer & dryer closet and dropped the line down and mounted the guard to the wall in the closet.I mounted my sideways and am experiencing some humming,if you go to there site to the Q&A section they suggest mounting it upright.

Great post. I was planning on mounting mine in the battery compartment but like the idea of being able to see it in the trailer. I know there is plenty of room behind the power and fuse panel.
Thanks,

I mounted my transfer switch there as well as my surge protection and Iota Smart charge unit.
