If the other brands had the Ford Tow Command package then you may see more Ford owners thinking about changing over, but if you have ever towed with the the Tow Command package you would know why we stay. Ford makes a great package, as long as you don't get one of the lemons. JMHO.

Believe me, they all make lemons.

I thought Chevy had a tow command pkg now. A friend who drives one said it does.

I am hoping to stick with my '03 7.3L until it dies. Hopefully it doesn't die until around 300K miles.

GM does have the Tow Haul mode, just click it and the Allison will do the rest. The only time I don't use the Tow haul is when I don't pull no trailer of any kind. Also when there is Ice or Snow I don't use Tow haul or the exhaust brake which I don't have with the Chevy Classic. I did have the exhaust brake with the 4500 but I prefer the Tow haul much more. We have owned 5 of the Duramax/Allison combo's and have never had any issures. As for HP the Duramax puts out more HP than the others. This is just a observation of mine, I think Ford put the spec's for the 6.0L PSD out and put pressure on Navistar to get it out to Ford and they didn't test this engine. Navistar does make a great Diesel, just wasn't time to get out all of the bugs. GM was selling the Duramax and Ford needed something new. The 7.3 as I understand was and is a awesome Diesel and is proven. I hope Ford has got the new 6.4 right, they really need to not have any problem. GBY.....

Carl and Susan, We feel for you guys and hope everything works out for you.......

Good Luck......................

I loved the Tow Command in the Ford and that's one thing I do miss. I have a good aftermarket controller (successor to the Prodigy) but it's not nearly as smooth as the Ford's controller. Ford has had that since 2003. GM added it this year. I've not heard when/if Dodge will do the same. I've not heard how well the GM version works but I'd bet it's good. I know the Ford controller is outstandingly smooth and effective.

R B Arney, don't despair. There have been a larger than "normal" number of 6.0's with problems but the vast majority have been good. I've driven Fords for many years. We recently traded our Ford with 85,000 miles on it and a big chunk of those miles were towing a Montana. Your truck will do a great job. Hopefully yours will not be one of the ones with problems.

While I remain partial to Fords, I also love the way this Dodge tows the Montana. The only phrase I can come up with that even comes close is "freight train on steroids." And something I really like is pulling a 14,620 lb trailer up a long 8% grade and seeing the engine temperature gauge rise to a whopping 205 degrees! And with a 195 degree thermostat.

I am also partial to Fords, but a fellow worker has a new '08 Diesel and has to take it back to the Dealer with engine problems. I sure hope Ford can get things right or I may have to look elsewhere for a new truck when I am in the market.

Hang on to that 7.3. The only way I will give mine up is if I can find a decent deal on a 02-03 7.3L.

The speedometer turns over at 400000 and there are quite a few out there that have without overhaul.

My problem is when I look I find a lot of the 7.3's selling a lot higher than book.
