Traveling with firearms

My wife and I are both in the military and getting ready for retirement and full time traveling in our RV. We’d like to bring out firearms with us for recreational shooting and self defense. We’re interested in what your experiences have been traveling with firearms. Multiple states have reciprocity, while other don’t.
1. How easy have you found it to find shooting ranges on the road?
2. How concerned are you about following local laws in relation to firearms?
3. Do you carry while traveling?

We’re haven’t seen very much on this topic online so we thought we’d throw it out there.

P.S. Sorry if this post offends anyone. We are very responsible firearms owners, with over 45 years experience between us.
