What a great campground. Spent five days there at the beginning of Sept.
We hope to go back sometime but its a long haul from Colorado.
The week right after labor day was a great time to go. No crowds at all.
They said the campground was at 1/3 occupancy.

Little story about Fort Wilderness Campground. When we checked in to the CG, we were told that if we were to see a snake or gator to report the sighting to the office. Well, one fine morning we woke up and looked out the window, and there about 5ft from our steps was this huge dark colored snake sunning itself on the cracked shell ground. Got on the cell phone and reported the sighting as instructed. Needless to say, 5hrs later, animal control finally showed up, long after the snake had left. After describing the color and size of the snake to the guy, he just kinda shrugged it off and said it was probably just a black racer that had been sighted many times on our site. He believed there was probably a nest near by, and left. Didn't get that warm / fuzzy feeling.
