Transmission problem
From:
Georges Body Shop computer during the noon hour, Monday, Oct 11, 2004
Lost ouyr transmission while baking into the campsite at the Mackinac Straits State Park campground late Saturday night,
Undergoing diagnosis at the moment, Expecting pain ($$) to follow.
Can't get local Forddealer to look at it, May have to go 50 miles to the Sault St. Marie deaker,
Will see. Be sightseeing from a taxi a day or two, Trees are beautiful, Michigan has some great State Parks, Good wine etc,
Weather may get a little blustery in next few days,
Stay tuned. Found good patsy supplier so we will survive, Great view of the bridge from the park.

However, at least you were in a park, or almost.
We have plans to head out for color on Wednesday AM. You are in one of our favorite places, the UP and the pasties are to die for. Mackinaw fudge ain't half bad either, if you have an extreme sweet tooth!!
Keep us posted as to your transmission situation. Sorry to hear it, does tend to put a damper on your life and mood.

I'm so sorry to hear that! Sounds exactly like what happened to us on one of our trips. We were backing up and the transmission broke! Guess reverse is NOT good for pushing those big rigs around. Something about the air not flowing over them like it does when pulling..... Took us a week on that one. But we got the rental car and did a lot of sightseeing. The dealer had a place to park the rig and we had the whole thing to ourselves and it was all free. Even the transmission only cost us $100. We had the extended warranty thing and it certainly paid for itself..... Right after that we got the 450. :-)
Good luck and hope the weather doesn't get too bad but looks as if a huge cold front is headed your way. Oh, well. Enjoy and just bring Lobo inside and have him sit on your lap.... that will keep you warm. LOL

Thank you. It's been a challenge but we've managed fairly well. This whole health thing is something that everyone should keep in mind when hitting the road.
We do appreciate all the prayers and thoughts everyone has given us. Thank you all so much.

Good luck. I developed transmission problems with LadyRam this week, Going in for diagnosis on Thurs. I have the extended warranty with Dodge so I might not be out too much $$. Hope not.
Enjoy the down time.

We're not having any transmission problems at the moment but then the truck has been sitting at the Indianapolis airport for the past almost two weeks. Jim, got your email. Please keep us posted. After tonight, we'll have a week or two of spotty access so might not reply right away.
Dennis, likewise, keep us posted on Mary Kay.

Right!
Us farm boys always say, "It could be worse." Like we could be back on the farm and winter is coming.
And Come Saturday Lobo and I are missing out on SD pheasant season. Now that is worse.
Ow well I'll just have another Pastie and uncork some more Michigan wine for consolation.

Years ago, before our RVing days, we took a trip up thru Michigan, Mackinac Straits, Mackinaw Island, the UP and Sault St Marie and I remember it as a beautiful experience. Hate to hear anyone having vehicle problems. Can put a real damper on what should be a great trip.

Got new trans. Straight from H. Ford. Ouch ($$)
Headed for pheasant country a little late but back on the road.
Enjoyed our extra time in Michigan. People are great as well as other RV'er who knew we were downfor a couple days. SOO Ford at Sault Ste Marie fixed 350. Let us use courtesy car for few days of sight seeing etc. Nice people. Call them if you need help.
On the road again. At Mistic Lake Casino near Shakopee, Minn now for week end. Winter rate $19. water off, but 50 amps and sewer connections.

Hello Jim,
Glad to hear your back in business.
Just curious; How much does a Trans. with installation cost these days?
I don't want to replace my TV for another 4 years and a Trans. replacement could be in my future. One never knows.

Jim,
Sorry to hear about your troubles...
I have the V-10 version of your truck...from my research, the V-10's tranny cooler is bigger than the one they were installing on the 7.3 PSDs...not sure why. The guys over on www.thedieselstop.com who are driving trucks with your motor were installing the V-10 cooler. I guess it made a pretty good improvement.
Another thing I did was to flush my tranny and put in Mobil 1 synthetic trans fluid (20 quarts)...now this isn't for the faint of heart, at $5/qt, it can be EXPENSIVE!!! But it was the best $100 I spent and if you're out pulling alot, that syn tranny fluid handles the heat much better than regular fluid...something to consider, anyhow.
