3820FK Toilet Replacement

We are in a 2017 3820FK, the toilet bowl is not holding water anymore without letting the foot pedal snap back. Rather than swapping the seal, want to upgrade to the Dometic 320. Currently have the Thetford. Wondering if any3820FK owners have swapped their Thetford out for the Dometic? Looks like a no brainer just curious if the water supply line will connect without any mods? Thanks Joe

I don't have your trailer but I have replaced 3 Thetford toilets in 3 Keystone trailers and not had a problem. Look at how yours is connected now and the Dometic connection point. They have always been a bit off due to the difference in designs but not enough to be any more than "pull it off the floor and slap the new one in". I will note on this one (new) once connected the Dometic caused the supply line to bend a little and put more pressure on the toilet fitting than I wanted so just removed a little from the entry hole and all was good. A good eyeball on the situation should tell you what you need. I have read of some that replaced fittings etc. on the replacement but do not know why they did it.

you might have to tweak the water line. Add a shutoff valve while you are in there

Weird that it works for me.

OK. Go to Keystone Montana RV Owners Group, in Facebook.
Search for Monty W. Parks, Dometic 310 toilets.

I replaced mine. I got a toilet hose that is flexible silver to do the connection. Also got a shutoff valve that connects to this hose. And I used shark bite connections to add on a standard threaded connector to attach the hose to.
Shark bites are great! I had never used it before.
After purchasing this stuff, it took maybe 10 minutes to install.

Dometic 320

Florida flockers this is what I used, for my "14 5er the water connection was on the opposite side, with only a short piece of pex coming through the floor, this slips right on, has stainless flex hose and shut off, also need adapter to join hose to toilet, real easy, just hope the pic loads, had trouble last time, lol, got it all at home depot

Didn’t replace but did have a similar problem. Used WD 40 on the linkage and problem went away. There was too much friction to let ball come back. Found out didn’t need to remove toilet after I diagnosed the problem after taking it out.

Just went through same issue of not holding water. Using a glove cleaned rubber gasket, then applied a thin coating of vaseline. Holding water for several days now.

Holding water with these Thetford toilets is a minor issue. Wait for the time, usually dark 0:30, when the pedal blows of the toilet and water is running, filling the bowl, and you aren't even close to awake enough to figure out what to do to stop the toilet from flooding the rig. I was able to manually turn the shaft to stop the water from flowing, but getting the pedal back on with the spring wasn't happening. I eventually found a new pedal, but less than four months later ended up replacing the toilet with a Dometic, and that's been over seven years ago, and haven't even had to replace the gasket, and we full time.

We full timed for two years in a class C with a preference to off grid camping so we went with a Natures Head composting toilet. When we sold the rig we put the original back in and moved the toilet to our 3121rl. Not for everybody maybe worth considering.

Buy a pex cutter and some shark bites, it's cheap and they will come in handy for other things like when the backflow preventer fails.

Yes, our thetford never held water. Lubricated the seal, replaced the seal.. finally installed a dometic 320 and the problem solved.
