Extended Pin Boxes On Larger 5ers

When I bought ny 2002 3655FL Montana an extended pin box was not offered on the 36' models. I thought at the time that this was because the extended pin box is not as strong as the regular version

On a recent trip to my dealer, I happened to notice that all the Montanas had extended pin boxes. In fact, I thought that they looked unusual after getting used to my 3655FL with the regular pin box.

Anyway, I can understand the concept behind using an extended pin box, especially with a short bed tow vehicle. But they don't appear to be as strong as the regular design.

Does anyone have an opinion on this? Have any of you had both and noticed any difference in the flex associated with the extended pin box?

Just curious and would like your opinion for future reference.

Craig
