I-76 in Pennsylvania

Planning a trip east from Colorado for 2020 Memorial Day. Have traveled I-80 toward Chicago, and that was easy. Plan on I-90 to Cleveland then I-76 to Gettysburg.

How is I-76 in Pennsylvania?

We live 20 miles from Gettysburg and have traveled the PA turnpike many times. Its a winding divided highway that can be somewhat dangerous. There is a LOT of truck traffic.

Avoid downtown Philly. Lots of low overheads

Just took that route (to Hershey) last year. Grew up around there. I-76 is also known as the Pennsylvania Turnpike. Road wasn't bad at all. Yes, it's hilly and winds about, but much less than the Interstates going over Rockies or Sierra Nevada.

How long should I expect to take driving from Cleveland to Gettysburg?

Any recommendation for campgrounds?

I-76 from the Ohio border to the Gettysburg exit is a toll road. EZpass is easier not to mention cheaper way to deal with the tolls. The road is a major highway and maintained fairly well compared to the rest of the Interstates in PA. It will be hilly and a little twisted in the western part of the state.

Yes it is a toll road and quite expensive towing a trailer from end to end.

Drive time from Cleveland is around 6 hours.
I-76 is a toll road but not like you would expect. Instead of getting a ticket at your start point and paying at your exit, there are random toll booths along 76 were you pay just to continue. EZpass or plenty of cash.
If memory serves right, avoid rte 30 between 76 and 81 unless you like white knuckle driving. Follow 76 to 81s to 30e or 76 to 15s.
We stayed at Battlefield Resort Gettysburg.

Reply to I76 in PA

I 76 goes right thru my town of Denver PA. I avoid I76 as much as possible. Very expensive and tolls are rising in January. It would cost you close to $100.00 to go from state line to Gettysburg.
I would come in on 80 all the way to 26 south to State College and 322 East to Harrisburg and 15 south to Gettysburg. Beautiful scenic drive.
I used this route to rally in Goshen

Its a nice drive but It’s VERY expensive! I’d stay on 80 to central Pa, south on I99 to Bedford. Then take I76. It will save you $
