Gas water heater

I am having an issue with the gas water heater in our 2021 Montana high country when ever we don’t use it for a few hours the fault light comes on and it will not work but if we turn it off let it sit for 10-15 seconds it will come back on ! Just don’t want to get to a point it doesn’t come back on any suggestions

Welcome to the MOC
If the DSI light comes on it's because the flame went out or didn't light. Wind can be a factor. Wind could be blowing out the flame. When this happens, the unit should automatically try to relight. If it doesn't relight then you have to manually reset it. I'd remove the cover and visually inspect for debris, spiders, wasps etc.

Here are some common issues.

  1. Defective control board
  2. The water heater tank is empty
  3. Faulty ECO circuit
  4. The check valve is occupied
  5. No airflow; possibility of a leak
  6. Bad thermostat
  7. Clogged burn chamber
  8. The system is out of gas
