Rust on disc brake rotors
Hi all,
Even though we purchased our unit last November, due to covid we couldn't pick up until last month; so it sat most of the winter.
I was checking suspension yesterday and noticed that all 4 brake rotors have significant rust on them. Before I call the dealer, I thought I would check in here.
Look at the attached photo and tell me what you think - will this rust burn off by driving it more? Or, do you think it is bad enough to need replacing of rotors and pads?
Thanks in advance for your help!
Brad

Just drive it. Looks normal. There are rotors that won't rust but not on our Trailers.

Not unusual IMHO. I see a bit of rust starting on my truck rotors when I don't use it for a couple of weeks.

Brad,
No issue - looks normal for no use.

Whatever you do, do not oil the rotors to stop the rust

Got it, no oil; just use grease then?
Thanks for all the advice folks!

NO - NO - not if you want to stop! Usage of the pads against the rotors keeps the rotors free of grease. Don’t use the trailer and rust will accumulate on bare metal from condensation
Great or oil the rotors if you don’t want to stop

Actually driving it won't help with the rust BUT stopping it will.

Nearly all rotors on any vehicle will Rust. Hell I have 3 brand new 21 Honda Civics and the rotors are Rusty in the morning after driven in the rain the day before

The polished surface of the rotors is a prime area for rust, don't drive your auto or tow vehicle for a couple of days after being out in the rain and look at the rotors, rust happens.

It is normal for rotors to rust when not in use. If this is just surface rust, it will come off when the pads rub the rotor. If the rotor is pitted, most of the rust will still go away with use but the pits will accelerate pad wear.

To me, there are some spots that look pitted. That's the part that I was more concerned about.
I'm going to check it again after a longer trip and see what's not surface.
Thanks!

Hi Brad, I think that is a good plan. Cheers, Rod
