Pine Sap

We camp seasonally in a campground in a Pine forest. I have never been able to get the pine sap off of the camper. How do you guys deal with the SAP from Pines? For that matter I have the same problem getting of my truck and makes it look like crap.

Look forward to you responses.

I have used the citrus goof off with some reasonable success. It's supposed to be OK on painted surfaces. Looks like this. https://www.amazon.com/Goof-Off-FG79...NsaWNrPXRydWU=
I've also heard of people using WD-40 but I have never personally tried it on auto paint. It works great for removing the black streaks on the side of our slides though.

We've used this stuff on our 5er with good success. Works well on pitch. Also takes it off of our pop-up tent.

WD-40 will remove it too. Spray on a rag, wipe.

If you use any type of citrus scented stuff be aware, so folks have had issues with birds and squirrels digging in to try and find the fruit. Probably no problem on a truck, but not good for a Montana roof.

Be very careful using solvents on the rubber roof, regardless of type, or your effort to remove sap will end up with a new roof. All petroleum solvents will damage the roof material and others may also.

Probably nothing will be totally safe on the rubber roof but then who really sees that roof. For the other surfaces, prevention first works best. A good wax/polish then a constant watch and removal then rewax the area - both RV and truck.

Many 'love' a product called Rejex (http://rejex.com/) though my try with it didn't end well as it smeared but may also have been my fault for not doing a thorough enough cleaning first.

If you can’t see the roof why go to all the trouble to get the sap off when it isn’t going to hurt any thing and could possibly damage the roof?

Thank you

Thank you everyone for the input. To be honest I always thought the pine sap would ruin the roof. Now it sounds like I have been mistaken.

I have a little OCD and sometimes just like the whole thing to look like new. Maybe I need a have a few more drinks around the campfire to let that go

Instead of worrying about the pine sap take a nap in your camper.

We just replaced our rig outside Ruidoso NM. It had been here almost 16 years; never moved nor was it covered. It sat on our 10 acre property which was covered with huge ponderosa pines. Never worried about pine sap unless it got on our clothes. Got on the roof once a year with a can of white roofing tar and a paint brush and resealed everything after cleaning the joints. I think the rubber roofing had oxidized enough so nothing ever stuck.

Pick up a quart of mineral spirits from a paint store or Home Depot. MUST be mineral spirits not lacquer thinner

Having lived in the forest for many years we always used butter or margarine to get sap off our hands, clothing, etc. Take a margarine tub and just smear a pat on the spot you want removed. I wouldn't have believed it worked if I hadn't seen and done it first hand for over 20 years.
