DISHTV Newbie

OK, I bit the bullet and ordered DISHTV for the house. They are coming tomorrow to install it. I know I can add on to my account to get DISHTV on the road.

What do I need to use the DISHTV in the Montana?
I see I will need an antenna to point at the satellites.
What do I need in the Montana?

Do I need another hopper and/or joey in the Montana or can I just take the ones from the house along when we travel?

Thanks for your expertise.

Many people who have Dish at home just take their home receiver box to the RV when they travel without getting a separate RV account. I bought another receiver for the RV and set up an RV account as I didn't want to have to unhook, move, hookup, unhook, move back, and rehookup the box every time we went somewhere.

With a dishformyrv account, it is very easy to get local network channels when you are out of your local reception area. Just call or chat Dish, tell them you want to change your service address (not the billing address), and in a few minutes you will have local channels from the nearest broadcasting area. We have done that many times when out of our area, the campground did not have cable, and we could not get OTA channels. DW has to have her favorite shows in the proper time slot. Don't know if you can do that when taking a receiver from home or not.

There are a few options. Depends on how much time you spend in your rig.

1. As Bill said you can move your existing equipment.

2. You can do a fixed mount on your roof like the Winegard Traveler - they are more expensive than your mobile antennas.

3. You can buy a Winegard X2 or Tailgater. X2 is a little bigger and a little more expensive.

4. You can buy another home set up and use it.

For the mobile antennas you will need Wally or VIP 211 receivers for each TV.

I like the X2 as it has a decent size antenna and works well. Recommend you direct wire any of the solutions vice using the cabling already in your rig.

So the fixed antenna does not require a Wally/VIP 211?

If I use the hopper will I still have to use the Wally/VIP 211?

The Wally or VIP 211 are for the Tailgater or X2. The hopper will work with the other solutions.
