Best hitch for a 2021 Ram 2500 short bed
Hi everyone, I've been looking at the different hitches and wondering which is the best for my truck to tow my new 5'er. I have a 2021 MHC 295RL, I was told Pullrite is the best hitch, but was curious to hear others thoughts with the same truck and what you suggest?
Thanks,
Mike

There’s isn’t much difference in them. They all do the safe job. Go look at all you can find. Then choose the one you like the best. I could tell you the B&W is the best because I have one. It’s the only hitch I have owned and most people are in the same boat.

You didn’t give enough information. Long bed or short bed? Is price a consideration? Will it stay in the bed all of the time or will you have to remove it often? We have a Pullrite 2600. I carry my kayak on a roof rack and need to get the hitch out of the bed at the campground by myself. If I left the hitch in all of the time and could afford it and I had a short bed, the Superglide is great. Curt, Reese, and Pullrite all have good hitches. Then there is the Goosebox. Decide what you need in a hitch based on YOUR needs. Maybe not what you wanted to hear, but it starts with the weight of your trailer and short or long bed. Then, how often do you need to take it out of the truck. After that, you will have an easier choice. Best of luck.

Best hitch for 2021 Ram 2500 shortbed
Thanks for the reply Rames14, I included it was a shortbed in the title. The RV weigh's 11,025. I have the puck system installed; so I was told if I went with the Pullrite I'd need the 2315 superglide. But was told it was quite heavy, so not sure if I want something like that since I use my truck for a lot of other things. Thats why I specifically wanted to know what Dodge or Ram users use in their short beds?
Thanks again for the info!

I have a 2020 Ram 3500 Mega Cab short bed SRW with a back flip tonneau cover and use the Pullrite 2315. I like the hitch, but it is pretty heavy. It weighs ~280#. I use an engine hoist with a demco adapter to connect the hitch to the engine hoist. I've attached a picture of my old Pullrite 3300 with the red demco adapter hanging from the engine hoist. The hitch comes in and out of the truck bed easily with the engine hoist.

I had a short bed until a year ago. I have the Reese Elite 20K slider, which I use in my long bed also. It is heavy, takes to people to move, and one is not me!

Mike, you may like the Pullrite 2600 then. It weighs in around 50 lbs. It fits on the ball and you can gain some extra clearance depending on how you position the plate and pocket. Now, there is discussion about Lippert and Andersen/Pullright hitches because with the ball or pocket ahead of the kingpin, you add extra torque on the frame. Many, many people like the Andersen. It is lighter, but it’s aluminum. I like the Pullrite for three reasons. First, it is steel. Second, you are lowering a ball into a funnel instead of bringing a funnel over the top of a ball. Third, Andersen had limitations on the use of their hitch on steep grades. My driveway was outside of their specs.
I use a US Rack fifth wheel kayak rack over my cab to carry my kayak and bikes. I am going to a long bed because I touched the cap with the end of the rack. No damage but didn’t want to worry about it.
Now, if you want to use a kingpin and are looking for a lightweight conventional hitch, they also make a version similar to the 2600 that will Mount to your pockets or utilize the single point (1P) option. You do not gain additional clearance. Another option is the Reese Goosebox. Then all you have in your bed is a ball.
Hope this helps.

I have a 2016 ram 2500 LB and got the bed puck from the factory, bought a mopar gooseneck ball and an anderson aluminum hitch. Take a look at their system, has a history of being strong enough, and when I am not towing the entire framework comes out by loosening the 3 locking bolts and a pin. I believe it's about #35, and I put a rack on the wall with hooks to hang it vertically out of the way. It does limit you to towing just trailers with the block that bolts to your pinbox, which sometimes is nice to not be asked to move others trailers, lol.
This is a nice package

I believe your trailer is ok without a sliding hitch. I did have a Superglide in my old 06 ram 1500 pulling a Rockwood 8288 lightweight, that hitch weight is why I got the Anderson with the new Ram truck. I use my truck 5% of the time for Camping, the rest as a truck....
Search Anderson if you want more details on the company, history, etc

Demco super slide is the best hitch without a question. I have one on my 2021 F-350 pulling a 3791RD. can turn 110 degrees. It also really helps in the backing of the 5vr

My Ram 3500 is a short bed with pucks. I've got the B&W. It is heavy but does come apart in two pieces. This hitch is sturdy and has a very good latching mechanism. It also adjusts up or down, forward or rearward. It will provide for plenty of cab clearance if the trailer cap is of the newer design.

Anderson Ultimate
I just got back from a 350 mile trip with my new Anderson Ultimate hitch and couldn’t be happier. It pulls great, Easy installation and set up, and only weighs 38 pounds. 2016 Nissan Titan XD-2015 Montana high country 340 BH

I wound up buying the B&W Companion slider 20K with the Ram OEM Puck system. Its a tad heavy, but not anything that can't be dealt with. Seems like a really nice hitch, made very well!

Just now reading your post. I too have a 2020 ram 3500 cc 6.4" bed and am looking at different hitches. I have a factory puck system and a 2020 Montana HC 305 RL.
Which B&W hitch are you using?
Thanks

It is the b&w companion with the ram puck system. B&Ws website is poorly constructed but you will find it if you look hard enough. Make double sure it is for your year of truck. I heard the puck mounting dimensions have changed around over the years.

By "short bed" do you mean 5 ft or 6.5 ft? There are 3 standard pickup beds - long bed - 8ft, standard bed - 6.5 ft and short bed - 5 ft.

My bed is 6.5, But I have the adapter mounted in the rear position and can still do a 90° turn. I think if I had a 5.5 bed and turn the adapter in the forward position I’d still have plenty of clearance.

I have the Chev 2500 HD extended cab. The bed is 6.5 which now i guess is the standard bed.
